Mechanic

Lately we have been spending an inordinate amount of time at our friend, Shawn's, mechanic shop.  We take our cars there for oil changes (he gives us a good price and he's WAY better than like Walmart), he pretty much does 90% of the maintenance on our vehicles.

The Hubs could do this stuff, but his free time is very limited and usually spent with the kiddos playing horsie or something like that.  Anyway, We also take my parent's vehicles there, because we live closer to the shop then they do so it's easier for us to drop their cars off and pick them up at our convenience.  All that to say we go to "Shawn's shop" a lot.  To the point that Firecracker can tell you how to get there.

So the other day one of Firecracker's toy cars broke.  He was so sad.  Then all the sudden he brightened up and said, "I have an idea!  Let's take my toy to Shawn's shop!  He can fix it!"  Hahaha!  My sweet boy =).

Have a great day!

Covers

I'm not sure if you know this, but kids have a hard times staying under the covers.  Firecracker and Sweet Pea are no exception.  When it's going to be chilly at night we have to turn the heat up and before I go to bed I go into the kid's rooms and cover them up one more time.

Lately Firecracker has been surprising me.  When I go into his room before I go to bed he is still under the covers.  =).  I know it's a small thing, but it is so cool to watch my babies grow up!  It's also a little saddening, but we're going to focus on the cool part right now =)

Have a great day!

Old

You know you're getting older when part of your "date night" includes a stop at Walmart so you can do some shopping without the kids.  Hahaha!  And yes, the Hubs and I did stop at Walmart for a little bit during our date night this last weekend.

You also know you're getting old when you have a hard time staying up past 10:45 pm.  (Yep, I'm guilty)

You know you're getting old when if you take a step the wrong way your knee starts to hurt.  (This describes me too)

I guess by these standards I'm officially old....  Oh well, as my Mama likes to say, "I'd rather get older than be dead!" =)

Have a great day!

Wonderings....

I am a weirdo that wonders all kinds of stuff.  And I'm going to share some with you.

1.  Who was the first person to take dried out corn kernels and heat them up and when they popped thought, "I think I'm going to eat that."?

2. Why does bottled water have an expiration date?  What will happen to me if I drink it after said date?

3. Why does Elmo's world (on Sesame Street) never emphasize the number of the day?  Instead he picks out some random number.  For instance (for those of you that aren't in the habit of watching Sesame Street) the number of the day is 7 and the whole show is talking about the number 7.  However, you get to the end of the program, Elmo's world comes on to finish out the show and he emphasizes the number 12.  Why?

These are just a few.  I don't want to share too much of my brain with you at one shot, because I don't want you to realize what a big bag of weird it is up there ;).

Have a great day!

5 Question Friday

Hey, Friends!  It's Friday again ;).  The Hubs and I are going on a date this weekend!  I'm so excited!!!

1. Do you embrace or dread snow/cold weather days?
I enjoy cold weather.  I despise snow.  I guess I enjoy the cold, because we don't have a lot of cold days here.  We might get 45 days of cold all year long.  And that's a generous number.  I guess I like it because it's a change.

2. Which game show or reality show could you totally win?
I'm not sure which one I could win.  I do know which ones I could NEVER win.  Those would be Survivor, Wipe Out, Jeopardy and I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

3. What is your preferred climate?
I love it when the weather is in the low 70s.  That's so perfect.  Not too hot, not too cold, it's perfect!

4. What do you buy every time you walk into the grocery store, no matter what?
Every time I have to go to the store I buy milk.  My kiddos go through about a half a gallon a day between the two of them.  Therefore, Mommy has to spend half her grocery budget on milk!

5. If you see a spider/bug in the house, are you brave enough to kill it, or do you call for your hubby?
It used to be I gave the Hubs a heart attack every time I saw a spider no matter how miniscule, I would scream and call for him to kill it.  He would think some one was dying and then when he'd realize it was a spider the size of the tip of a pencil he would laugh and smush it with his hand.  Gross right?  I've gotten better since I've had the kiddos, because I'm home so much with them and I don't want evil spiders to bite them.  So if we are here alone I grab a shoe and end the life of the evil, blood thirsty spiders.  If the Hubs is here I totally make him do the killing.  Yuck, now I feel like I need a shower, because I've thought too much about my arch nemesis.

Have a great weekend!

In Common

Today I have a bit of a riddle for you.

Q: What do locks, door knobs, zippers and lids to bottles have in common?

A: It stinks when your toddler figures out how to open them.

Nothing in my life is safe any more!!! =)

Cousins

Not long ago I posted  here about cousins and what a special bond they share.  While I still hold those sentiments that is not what I'm going to post today.  Nope, today is different.

Today, I'm begging for some of my relations to come see us. Of course I love them and I'd love to see them for my own sake, but I need them to come for my sanity.  Firecracker is desperately missing his cousins.  Every day, multiple times a day, Firecracker and I have this conversation:
F:  "Mama, can I go to my cousin's house?"
M: "Not right now, honey.  They are all far away." (even big E and No no are gone visiting my SIL's mom)
F: "Ok, can my cousins come to my house?"
M: "No, honey, they're all too far away to come today, but they will come some day."

Wash, rinse, repeat.  Therefore, I NEED family to come and see us.  Not just to see me, because I'm fabulous and great company and all, but for Firecracker's sake.  He LOVES his cousins and misses them ALL!

Have a great day!

Cheap

In case you didn't know, I'm uber cheap.  I pinch every penny until Abe screams for mercy.  It's the way I am and the way I've always been.  The Hubs is the generous one in our family.  Not saying I won't help someone out, especially if I know and love them, but he's MUCH more apt to give.  I don't begrudge him that at all.  I'm cool when he is generous, I am just not good at it myself.  All that to say I'm cheap.  Above all else, I DESPISE paying retail prices.  It's a ridiculous mark up.

Anyway, the other day my SIL, Mrs. Pickles, and I went "thrifting" (aka shopping multiple thrift stores).  90% of mine and my kid's clothing comes from thrift stores or garage sales.  We picked up some GREAT deals!  Now, I'm not naive enough to think that every piece of clothing I need for my children or myself will come from thrift stores or garage sales.  I know better, but you can find some uber cute stuff for much less than you'd pay in the store.

I picked up 5 or 6 t-shirts for Firecracker, a dress, a top and a pair of Levi jeans for myself and paid less than 20.00.  Yep, I love being cheap!

Have a great day!

I've Still Got It

The other night I went to a local fast food place to pick up some dinner for the kids.  I ordered and then pulled around to the pick up window to pay and get the food.  When I got to the window the guy (he was in his late teens I'd say) took my money, and handed me the food.

Then when I was getting ready to drive away he kept making small talk.  I was polite and reciprocated for a minute or two and then pulled away.  As I was driving home it dawned on me that he was flirting with me!  It's been so long I almost forgot the signs ;).

While I was not attracted to him at all, it was nice to know that I've still got it ;).  5 1/2 years of marriage and 2 kids haven't made me completely undesirable.  Talk about an ego boost.

Have a great day!

5 Question Friday

It's Friday again and it's a long weekend!!! Yippee!!!

Thanks to Mama M. for letting me link up.  Alrighty, on with the fun!

1. If you were going to be stuck on a deserted island, which 5 books, movies, people and foods would you take along?
How long am I going to be stuck?  Because this really will affect my decisions.  For instance if we're stuck for just a few days up to a week I'm not going to include my children.  If we're going to be stuck for years then my kids will be with me for sure. Ohhh, and can I bring my kindle?  Because it's no bigger than a book and it has like 100 books on it =).  Ok, so if you're going to hold me to the whole "only 5 books" rule, I'm gonna go with  my Bible, Pride and Prejudice, The Complete Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, A Pemberley Medley, and my mind is drawing a blank right now on the 5th one.  I'm sure there is a 5th one, but my mommy brain is having problems bringing it up ;).  Movies I'm going with, You've Got Mail, Laws of Attraction, The Avengers, The Gilmore Girls complete set, and A Christmas Story.  People(going with the years idea first): The Hubs, Firecracker, Sweet Pea, my Mama and my Daddy. People (only a week or less): The Hubs, Ms. L (my bestie), her Hubs, Mr. and Mrs. Pickles (my bro and his wife).  Foods: Steak, Pizza, Chocolate, Nachos and Quesadillas.  =)

2. What is your thought on year round school?
I don't think year round school is that great an idea.  I don't really know a ton about it, but I think kids need a break to recharge their batteries just like adults do.

3. What is your most embarrassing potty story? (Can't be one of your kids' potty stories either!) Hee Hee! This cracks me up and stems from a HILARIOUS twitter conversation...
Probably when Firecracker was with me in a public bathroom and he decided to try and open the door while I was going.  (he didn't get the door all the way open.  That's probably because I was freaking out on him to close the door....)

4. What's the temperature where you are?
The temperatures here have been fabulouso the last few weeks.  We have had highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s.  In other words perfection.  However, we pay for that in the summer.  It gets very, very hot here.  Oh well, I'd rather have heat than snow.  You don't have to shovel heat. =)

5. Are you a winter/spring/fall/summer person?

I really love all the seasons for different reasons.  I love winter, because it means Christmas and family get togethers.  I love spring, because it brings Easter and the rememberance of what Christ did for us on the cross. Fall (although we don't really have fall here) is awesome because it brings great weather and pretty colors.  And summer rocks because it's beach time!  Gotta love the seasons.

Have a great week!

Restraint

Restraint is elusive to me.  I have no almost no restraint.  I have enough restraint to keep me from tackling the guy in front of me at the grocery store who took the last Twix bar.  Instead I just grab the Snickers and wish I had the Twix.

If you haven't guessed my main area of restraintlessness (pretty sure I just invented a new word yourwelcome) is in the food department.  I enjoy food way too much.

My Mama has crazy good restraint.  Especially when it comes to food.  She's one of those people who keeps a bag of M&M's  in her cupboard and only eats a few when she is craving something sweet. Conversely, I'm one of those people that if I have an open bag of M&M's in my cupboard I keep finding reasons to go into the kitchen and then I snatch a handful.  See? Zero restraint.

I'm working on it, honestly I am.  My waist line and clothes that keep tightening around my growing tummy, demand that I learn some restraint.  So since I can't afford to go buy an entirely new wardrobe, I'm going to try...... I'll let you know how that goes.....

Have a great day!

Sheets

There is something about clean sheets.  I love climbing under the covers on clean sheet night and breathing in the smell of fabric softener and feeling the soft coolness of the sheets.  Nothing in the world can compare to this little luxury.

I'm not saying that clean, fresh sheets are the best thing in the world, because there are lots of things that are better.  However, clean sheets are soothing and calming and welcoming.  At least they are to this tired mama! =)

And now I feel like I should go change my sheets again, because they're a few days old and they no longer have that "clean sheet feel" ;).  Hahaha!

Have a great day!

Garbage Can's Mystical Powers

Have you ever noticed that garbage cans have mystical powers?  Because they DO!  A regular piece of paper, that your child wouldn't look twice at on the counter, enters the garbage can and all the sudden that paper is fascinating!  They want to touch the paper, hold the paper, and possibly lick the paper, depending on how the first two experiments go.

For a long time this mystical power frustrated me.  I would get upset that my children wanted to strew trash around my house.  And now? You ask.  Well, now, honestly it still frustrates me sometimes, but when you stop to think about it, it is kind of humorous.  The garbage can is the "no touch" zone and therefore anything inside of it is desirable.  And this my friends is why I stock my cabinets with bleach, clorox wipes and hand sanitizer.

Have a great day!

The Cup

Last Sunday the Hubs and I arrived at Church and some how he found an extra sippy cup under one of the van seats.  Some of you already know that we hunt them often. This sippy cup happened to be semi transparent and we could literally see the chunks floating in it (I know disgusting right?!).  We left the cup in the van deciding we would dispose of the cup when we got to my parent's house after church.

A few hours later we were at my parent's house and realized we still needed to dispose of the nasty cup (sometimes, they are just not worth trying to save, and this was one of those times).  When I picked the cup up to throw it out, the motion of the liquid was too much for the cup and it started spewing!  Thankfully very little got on anyone (a tiny bit on my leg, but I was wearing a skirt, so the nastiness was easily cleaned off), but it got in the van carpeting. =(  YUCK!!!  It was not fun, but it's all cleaned up now.... I'm just hoping that when I get in the van tomorrow it doesn't stink! If any of you see me and I smell like putrid milk, please tell me.  Thanks in advance!

Hope you all have a great day!

5 Question Friday

Good morning, Friends =).  It's Friday again! Yippeeeeeee!!!!  This weekend we don't have a ton planned, but that's cool with me =).  Alrighty, on with the 5 question fun!  Once again thanks to Mama M. for letting me link up.  Here we go!

1. Flu mist? Flu shot? Or take your chances?
I don't know what a flu mist is.  Is that like being sneezed on by someone with the flu?  Because if that's what it is I say noooo thank you!  I got a flu shot last year, but that was because my insurance company gave me a 25.00 gift card if I got the flu shot.  They didn't offer me any thing this year, so I don't plan on getting one.  (Have I told you I'm cheap? ;)

2. Do your kids have iPads? What are some good educational apps? Price?

Since my kids are 3 and 1 no, they don't have iPads or any other type of techy stuff like that.  Firecracker likes to play games on my kindle and on the Hub's droid phone.  I have a few puzzle games and learning games on my kindle (I don't know their names, but they're free) and the Hub's has the more "cool" games like legos and angry birds (also free).

3. What are your favorite boy/girl baby names?

I love the name Charlotte for a girl.  I really wanted to name Sweet Pea Charlotte, but the Hubs said it was too long a name.  For a boy I love the name Garrett.  If Sweet Pea had been a boy she would have been Garrett.  I really do love those names, but not enough to have another baby.....

4. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which apple do you choose to eat? (red/green, gala, red delicious...)

I used to not really care for apples, but the Hubs has converted me.  He has always loved Fuji apples.  I am a believer now.  Fuji apples are the most delicious!

5. What is your favorite place to escape to for peace & quiet, to think? Why?

My "escape place" is my bed room.  My bed is my "safe place".  I love to go there and read or think or just to breathe for a minute or two.  I don't really know why that is my favorite place, but it's just the way it is.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Future Photographer?

Firecracker has become quite attached to my small camera (not my Rebel, that's off limits).  If I take it out to snap any pictures he wants to take pictures too.  I've started letting him take some as long as I'm right there and he handles it properly.  Here are a few of his pictures:

Doesn't he have such talent?! ;)

Hope you have a great day!

Insults or Love?

The Hubs and I have this little "game" (for lack of a better word) that we play with each other. It goes a little something like this:

Me: Do you like my dress?

H: Honey, I love you no matter what you look like.

M: So you're saying I look horrible?! (This is said in jest.  I'm not really one of those type of women)

H: No, that's not what I said!

M: That's what I heard!

Then we both laugh at how very stuck he is.  I've played this game on him since we've been married.  Lately the Hubs has gotten good at turning the tables on me.  He will trap me and I didn't even see it coming!  Then I realize how it feels ;).  Then we both laugh at me being stuck. This is reason number 2,948,479,987 that I love him.

Hope you have a great day!

Containers

I have long despised cleaning out the refrigerator.  You find things in there you can't remember when you last saw them.  And of course they smell..... ummm shall we say lovely?

I have learned a trick that makes this unpleasant task so much nicer.  I keep all our old whipped cream tubs and butter tubs etc.  I put most left overs and things into these containers.  Then when it comes to cleaning out the fridge if the item is questionable I pitch the whole container in the trash and never look back.

I do have regular tupperware or rubber maid or whatever you wanna call them containers.  And I do use them.  I just thought you all might wanna know about my little trick ;).

Have a great day!

The Mob

This Christmas I was made "an offer I couldn't refuse" (read that last part with the voice of the guy on the Godfather).  Not really, but I couldn't help but put that line in this post some where! =).

Actually, I learned that I am part of the Mafia.  My family have dubbed ourselves the "Minivan Mafia".  My BIL went outside at one point to get something from his van, and when he came back inside he said it looked like the "Minivan Mafia" had attacked my parent's house.  After we all had a good laugh over that we adopted the nick name.  So be careful and don't mess with anyone in my family, or you might find yourself sleeping with the fishes!  (you know the little cracker kind, you can find those on almost any minivan floor, along with various and sundry other things.  Trust me that's a true threat! hahaha!)

Now, I feel I'm in the need of some kind of Mafia-ish nick name.  You know like Lefty, or Baby Face, or Guido or something.  I'll keep you posted if I think of one! =)

Have a great day!

5 Question Friday!

Good morning, Friends!  It's Friday again!  Yippee!!  Don't know exactly what this weekend holds, but we shall see!  Alrighty, on with the fun.  Once again thanks to Mama M. for letting me link up.  Buckle up, because here we gooooo! =)

1. Have you set any goals/resolutions for 2013?
Yep, and you can read all of them here, but the biggest one is to be more hands on with my kids.  I only get one shot at raising my kids, and no matter what else I may accomplish in my life, if my kids don't turn out well, then I'm a failure. (This is the way I feel personally, I'm not passing judgement on anyone.)

2. Have you made any travel/vacation plans for 2013?
I Hope to be able to go to Disney in September.  We used to go to Disney every year with out fail.  It's one of my vices, but when Firecracker turned 3 we just couldn't stomach paying 70.00 for a 3 year old to get into the park.  So we didn't go in 2012.  Hopefully, we'll be able to go this year... Fingers crossed!  Disney is so awesome.  I LOVE it.... and I have to get off of this subject now, or I'll never finish the rest of the questions ;).

3. What room is never cleaned in your house?
Never cleaned or never clean?  Because I clean all the stinkin' time, but does it stay that way?  I'll give you 2 guesses, but I'm thinking you won't need them both.  Yeah, so I'm going to go with "never clean" and it's got to be a toss up between the kid's bathroom or the kitchen.  I swear to you I clean both of these rooms frequently, but it seems like everytime I leave them and come back little elves (probably named Firecracker and Sweet Pea) come out of the wood work and mess it all up again.  Oh well....

4. What food must be in your house at all times?
Some form of chocolate.  I hate that I'm so dependent on the stuff, but if there isn't any in the house I feel like a druggie looking for their next fix.  I get all wild eyed and start saying things like, "come on, man, I just need a little.  Barely a taste and I won't bother you any more".

5. Are you a hugger or more of a hands off person?
Once upon a time I was a hugger.  I hugged just about everyone I knew.  However, I've become much more withdrawn after having babies.  I still hug some people, especially people I've known a long time, but do I pass out hugs as often as I used to? Nope.  I'm pretty sure it went down hill when I started going crazy

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Schedule? What Schedule?

These last few weeks have been crazy.  We have been playing, shopping, hanging with family and doing all the rest of the stuff that comes along with Christmas.  We've had a great time.  However, the kid's schedule is all wackadoodle now.

Their schedule used to go something like this: Get up, have breakfast, play, read some books, play, go to the store/ any other necessary errand, lunch, nap.  However, the last two weeks the schedule has been something like this: go, go, go, sleep if you must, go some more!

Thankfully, they have been remarkably well behaved for this interruption in their little lives.  I'm one blessed Mama!  And now that life is going back to normal our schedule has gone back to it's much more mundane and normal way.  It's like any other vacation.  We've had a great time, but it's nice to get back to normal =).

Happy New Year!

Directions, Who Knew?

The other day I was doing laundry and I actually decided to read the directions on the back of the stain remover.  It said not only should you spray it on, you're also supposed to rub it in and wash the clothes in hot water.  Silly me!  I've always been told that you shouldn't washed stained clothes in hot water, because it'll make the stains set in.

I decided to give the directions a whirl.  And guess what?  It worked!  With 2 kids I go through so much stain remover I should buy stock in the company.  For real.  And the thing is, Sweet Pea is worse than Firecracker.  Anywho, sometimes I have to wash clothes 5 and 6 times to get the stains all the way out.  But now, now I'm only washing them like twice!  I know this doesn't sound like a huge victory, but I'm conserving water, energy (and moola) by actually reading the directions.  Who would've thought?  Because saving water and energy basically means I'm saving the world, and that means I'm a freakin' Super Hero!!!  Who knew that my super hero power would be reading directions?  Well, we learn something new every day =).

Hope you have a great day!

New Year's Resolutions

This is the time of year that everyone determines to do better.  People start diets, determine to go to the gym more, promise to be nicer, etc. etc.  Well, I have a few resolutions myself.

1. Not get pregnant.  I know this sounds silly, but I'm happy with my little family and I'd go clinically insane if I got pregnant again.

2. Be more hands on with my kids.  Meaning doing more things with them like art projects and games etc.

3. Read at least 1 parenting book.  I LOVE to read, but I despise "self help" books, or instructional books.  I'm all about a story line.  And books that help you become a better Christian, Parent, Person etc. don't typically have riveting story lines.  It takes true discipline for me to read one all the way through.

4.  Continue working on my mental health, well, at least the depression part, because the crazy part I've lived with too long to get rid of now ;).  I've come a LONG way in 2012.  I've battled hard and long, and I believe the worst is behind me. PRAISE GOD!  I don't mean that it's all sunshine and roses everyday, but it's not the doom an gloom it was.  And it seems it's getting better all the time.

So what are some of your resolutions?

Happy New Year!
