Almost Hair Fire

Everyone has had at least one day where they're running behind and something goes wrong.  In some cases comically wrong.  Welcome to my life.  It seems like I'm always running behind (aka late) .  On the rare occasion that I'm doing well time wise something ridiculous happens to throw me off.  Example:

The other morning I was doing peachy keen time wise.  I was proud of myself.  All I needed to do was dry my hair and the kids and I were ready to head out the door.  We still had like 20 minutes before we had to leave and it usually takes me somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes to dry my hair, depending on how fancy I want to be.

The kids, all ready to go, were sitting in the living room watching some t.v. and I ran into my room to do my hair.  As I'm blow drying a flicker caught my attention.  I look more closely (through the mirror) and it went off again.  My hair dryer was shooting sparks!!  Holy cowbells!!  Thank the Lord I wasn't holding it super close.  Ugh, I do NOT need my hair to catch fire.  I'm no Katniss, she is the girl on fire, I however am a housewife that needs to have all my hair. (ok, so technically, Katniss' hair didn't catch fire, but still it made for a good Hunger Games reference ;).

Needless to say, I ended up being late, because I had to drag out my straightening iron, let it heat up and then use it to dry/ do my hair.  It's actually a great little do-dad that is called a wet to straight hair straightener.  You can use it on wet hair thereby eliminating the need to dry your hair first.  Because, really, who has time to add that many steps to their morning routine?

For real, though, I've got to stop patting myself on the back for doing so well, until I reach my destination.  Because next time something else will go wrong... Sometimes I wish Murphy would just leave me alone!! (Murphy's law, just in case ya'll don't get my point)

Have a great day!
Ms. T

How Many Times?

Ok, so we've all done it.  We've all said something along these lines: "How many times have I told you not to ______?"

Firecracker has started to take this rhetorical question literally.  Whenever I ask him, "how many times have I told you __________?!" He will say something like, "10?"

Now, usually this conversation is taking place because Firecracker has done something he should not have or didn't do something he should have.  So you can imagine how hard it is to keep from cracking up when he actually offers up a number.  And I'm not usually in the mood right then for a lesson on rhetorical questions.

Oh, kiddos.  They keep our lives interesting don't they? ;)

Have a great day!

My Mama's Birthday! (2 days early)

Sunday is a fabulous day that should be marked down in all of history. Why? you ask. Because today is my Mama's birthday!!!

My Mama is so wonderful.  She's godly, a prayer warrior, sweet, caring, corny (believe me I don't think I've ever met anyone cornier, but it's endearing), wise, patient, unique, consistent (my family's way of saying predictable, it's the optimist's view point), optimistic the list could go on.  I can't tell you how blessed I am to have her as my Mom.

When I was a kid she always took the time to talk to me.  Not just things like, "stop running with the scissors", but she wanted to KNOW me.  And she wanted to get to know my friends.  She spent hours with us just talking or playing board games. My Mama took an interest in me.  She wanted to know my likes, my dislikes etc.  She came to all my basketball and volleyball games in High school.  She was at every school play and every fundraiser.  My Mama is one of a kind.

I really can't say enough good things about my Mama, because I love her so much.  She is not just my Mama, she is also one of my dearest and closest friends.  God blessed me beyond measure when He allowed me to be born to my wonderful parents.

Happy Birthday, Mama!  I love you more than words can express!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

New Englander?

I have come to the conclusion that the Hubs and I are raising a New Englander.  All of a sudden out of nowhere, Sweet pea has started pronouncing words strangely.

Instead of saying shower she will say "showa" (read it in a New England accent).  Or powder is "powda".  There are several more instances I could share.  For instance toilet paper is "toilet papa".

Where did she get this?!  The Hubs and I have no clue.  Sweet pea just started it out of the blue one day, and now that is how she talks.... Weird

Have a great day!

Lunch Box Smell

The kids have multiple lunch boxes, because sometimes one gets left at school, or in the van or just plain lost.  An extra lunch box or two is always good to have on hand for just this reason. Occasionally, one of the lunch boxes will have the "lunch box smell".

You may be asking yourself "what is the 'lunch box smell?'"  It is  hard to describe. It isn't really a bad smell. I really don't even know how to describe it.  I've only ever truly noticed it in the old school plastic lunch boxes.  And it happens when it's been used with out being washed out for like a week of solid use.

Anywho, the other day I was unpacking one of the lunch boxes and it had that distinct "lunch box smell".  It transported me back to when I was a little kid. It made me smile.  Even though it's not my favorite smell in the world, it's funny how one little sniff can bring back so many memories.

Have a great day!

Emergency Shoes

I know normal people don't have an "emergency shoe stash" in their vehicle.  I know I'm not normal, I came to terms with this a loooooonnnng time ago.  Allow me to tell you the story of how the emergency shoe stash came into existence.

Once upon a time (about a year ago), I had arrived at Firecracker's school with Sweet pea in tow.  We were there because I was volunteering that day.  When we got inside I realized Sweet pea didn't have any shoes!  We had left the house in a rush and Sweet pea was being kind of cranky so I just carried her to the car.  Thus the emergency shoe stash was born.

Our emergency shoes are really just cheap pairs of flip flops.  Not ideal foot wear, but at least the kids would have shoes if for some reason they didn't have any.

The other Wednesday night we were headed off to church and once again Sweet pea was being cranky so I just carried her to the car and loaded her in.  Off we went on our merry way, until we got to church and realized Sweet pea had no shoes!  I pulled out the flip flops, thankful I had something for her to put on her feet.  However, there were a few problems.

Sweet pea does not walk well in regular flip flops.  She shuffles along to keep them on her feet.  While this wouldn't be a huge problem for some church occasions, Wednesday nights are different.  Wednesday nights are fun nights at church for the kids.  They get to run around in the gym and play all sorts of games.  They also move from one building to the next for Bible time.

Now our emergency shoe stash includes a pair of tennis shoes for Sweet pea......

Have a great day!

I've decided that it is October.  I'm tired of this year slipping by so quickly.  I feel like in my brain it should be about Octoberish.  So Happy Halloween everyone, because I'm not ready for it to be Christmas yet.

Road Trip

The week of Thanksgiving our little family drove 12 hours to visit the Hub's dad.  I love my Father in law.  He is truly awesome.  However, I DO NOT love the 12 hours it takes us to get to his house.

I am not a huge road trip fan.  I'm good on trips that are 3 or 4 hours long.  I can stand trips that are 5 or 6 hours long.  Trips that are 7 to 8 hours long I start getting antsy.  Anything longer than 8 hours and I go crazy.  Not a fun kind of crazy.  Now, add 2 kids that are cranky because they don't like driving longer than an hour and it's not the most amazing experience.

I'm so thankful we don't do long road trips longer than once or twice a year.

Have a great day!

December Already?

Oh mylanta!  How in the world is it December already?  I have the majority of my Christmas shopping done, but that is just the tip of the ice burg my friends.

December is a great month for many reasons:

1. Teaching my kids what Christmas is all about.
2. Christmas parties and yummy food
3. Lots of Church events centered around Christ's birth and yummy food
4. Christmas plays/ performances
5. Family get togethers and yummy food
6. Watching the kids open presents
7.  It's the Hub's birth- month which means yummy food!
8. It's my birth- month which means more yummy food!
9.  It's my Mama's birth- month which means more yummy food
10. It's Ms. L, my bestie, birth- month (we're actually birthday twins =) more yummy food
11. It's my nephew, Tank's, birth- month more deliciously, yummy food

Now, December is also a overwhelming month because:

1. I gain 34,435,946,785 pounds, because I have no self control around all that yummy food.
2. Although all the stuff is amazing, and fun and I wouldn't miss any of it for the world, it's A LOT to cram into 31 days.

Ok, ready, set, off we go into the crazy awesomeness we call December!

Have a great day!

Let's All Get Along

Nothing brings children closer than a shared hatred of bedtime.

Their little minds think something along these lines:

-Mommy says I'm supposed to be getting ready for bed.
-I'm all ready for bed, and Mom hasn't told me to get INTO bed yet.
-I wanna play.
-(somehow the sibling enters into playtime)
-I want to be nice to him/her because if we fight Mommy will realize we aren't in bed yet.

If you are a parent of multiple children you will know this to be true.  I guess it's nice that they have something that brings them together into a united front.

Have a great day!

Early

Back story- It is a rare occurrence that we are early.  Before the kids came along, the Hubs and I were never late.  Now.... I'm lucky if I squeeze in on time.

Now onto the main event-  The other day, the kids and I made it out of the house and were on our way to school early! I congratulated them and told them how proud I was of them.  All the sudden from the back seat I hear Firecracker pipe up with, "Mommy, what is 'early'?"

Oh goodness!  What a sad statement... I'm going to have to work harder at being early!

Have a great day!

Sweet Tooth

We have known for quite sometime that Sweet pea has a sweet tooth.  If there is anything remotely sweet near she will find it and stick to your side until it's gone and its container has been licked clean!

The other day, Sweet pea was hungry for a snack and was searching the cupboard.  She came to me and said, "Mommy, can I have some cake?"  When I turned around she was holding a box of cake mix.  I said, "sorry, sweet girl, that isn't cake, it's cake mix".  To which she replied, "mmmmm I like cake mix!" Then she made a slurping sound like she was gonna lick it all up.  Oh dear!  What am I gonna do with her?

Have a good day!

Daddy Honey

Apparently, I call the Hubs "honey" more often than I realize.  Of course this is not a bad thing, it's just something my children have recently brought to my attention.  They have gone about it in their own special ways, but they have both talked about the fact that "honey" is Daddy's name.  Here are their ways of showing me:

Firecracker

Me: Firecracker, would you please go turn off the kitchen light?
Firecracker: ok
M: thanks, hon
F: shew, I thought you were going to call me 'honey'.
M: why would that be bad?
F: because 'honey' is Daddy's name.

Sweet pea (on a completely different day, before she heard the conversation with Firecracker. And these instances were far enough apart for Firecracker not to get the idea from her.)

Sweet pea:  Mommy, when will Daddy Honey be home?
Me: soon

(and for about 2 weeks every time Sweet pea referred to the Hubs it was always 'Daddy Honey')

Munchkins are always paying waaaayyyyyy more attention than we think they are!

Have a great day!
Ms. T

Whinese

The other day I was browsing Pinterest and read a pin that said, "I'd love to help you, but I don't speak Whinese".  I have decided that shall be my new motto!!

My munchkins, Sweet pea especially, have become fluent in Whinese lately. I can't stand it.  I tell them I can't understand them until they talk to me without whining.  It does help some, so I guess I should be thankful for that....

Any other Mommies out there that have this issue?

Have a great day!

Pin-aholic

I have become a pinaholic.  Seriously, it's a sickness.  Some of you may be asking yourself what a pinaholic is.  Here is a definition of a pinaholic:  someone who is inexplicably addicted to Pinterest

It has gotten bad.  It's to the point where the other day the Hubs and I were playing around and he was like, "give in, or I'll block pinterest with the fire wall".  I was like, "(gasp!) you wouldn't!"
He assured me he would, so I did give in.  I'm hopelessly addicted.

Have a great day!

Beach Boys

Awhile ago I was craving some Beach Boys music.  My Daddy loves the Beach Boys and so I grew up listening to them.  Well, I listened to the oldies station for days and never heard them. I was so disappointed.  I finally decided to buy one of their c.d.s.

Since then the kids and I listen to the c.d. about once a week or so. Lately, it has been MUCH more often.  Firecracker loves the song, "Let's Go Surfing Now" and "409".  Sweet pea too will ask for songs, but they differ depending on the day.

Listening to the kids sing their own versions of these songs cracks me up.  The other day, Sweet pea was singing "409" and her lyrics went something like this:
"giddy up, giddy up four oh line. Don't touch my four oh line...."
=)

Firecracker is better he gets most of the lyrics right but the other day I had to correct him and tell him it was "409" not four oh time.

Haha!  I Love my silly kiddos.

Have a good day!

Old School Batman

My parents found the old school version of Batman (we're talking the one staring Adam West) on their cable the other week.  My Dad decided to record them, because he knew the boys would love it.  Boy oh boy was he right!  As soon as we get to Gram and Papa's house Firecracker wants to watch Batman.

I have no qualms about letting him watch this version of Batman, because it's so tame.  Sure there are villians and fighting, but it's not violent, if that makes sense.

Anyway, the other day we were at my parent's house and Firecracker was watching Batman.  I was catching snippets of the show and one made me laugh.  It still makes me laugh.  There was a scene where Cat woman had captured Robin and was about to feed Robin to her pet tigers.  She had just finished her monologue about her evil plan and Robin looked at her and said, "Cat woman, you're not a nice person!"  Oh my goodness, how that made me laugh!!

Just take a moment to think about that.  In 50ish years of television our insults have gone from "you're not a nice person" to every curse word in the book.  It's sad.  Anyway, I gotta say I'm enjoying Batman too, but not as much as Firecracker.

Have a great day!

Chatter Boxes

My children are chatter boxes.  They talk constantly.  You may think I'm exaggerating, if you think that then you need to spend a day with my munchkins.  There is no such thing as a quiet moment, except for nap time.

The munches talk about the color of the grass, their imaginary friend, D.F., their favorite t.v. shows, the kids at school that didn't share with them etc.  Most of the time I'm cool with it.  My Mama always told me (and still tells me) that if you don't wanna listen to them when their little, they won't wanna tell you things when they're older, because to them it's all important.  However, there are days (mostly mornings) when their nonstop chatter is not my favorite.  Oh well, God has given me 2 little nonstop information spouts.  I will be grateful they still wanna talk to me =).

Have a great day!

100,000

This last weekend our van, Big Mama, rolled into 100,000 miles.  We bought her with only 11,000 miles on her.  We have had her five years so when you do the math we have put just under 18,000 miles on her every year.

Big Mama has been an amazing vehicle.  (Now, I feel like I should knock on wood) She has had very few issues considering how much we ask of her.  I'm thankful for a dependable vehicle.  I just hope Big Mama will last several more years :)

Have a great day!

Questions About Frozen

Ok, so Elsa doesn't know how to melt the snow right?  Think about it then, at the beginning of the movie the girls are playing in the great hall in a ton of snow.  They acted like this was a pretty regular thing.  Soooo my question is, where did the snow go?  Did it melt? You have to wonder what in the world was going through the servant's minds every morning.  What were they thinking?  "Oh, man!  I've got to mop up 10,000 gallons of water again today?!"
If it didn't melt (which of course in the movie the snow she created didn't, but it was different circumstances), the servants must have really been confused.  "What?  It's 90 degrees outside!  How did we get 10 feet of snow in here?!"

Just thinking... Yeah, I know I'm crazy.  I wonder all kinds of wackadoodle stuff.  Welcome to one small corner of my brain. ;)

Have a great day!

Tea

The Hubs and I are slightly addicted to sweet tea.  The two of us go through at least one gallon every day.  I know, it's a sickness.  Anyway, to avoid having to make tea Every. Stinkin'. Day. I have taken to making several gallons at once.  I started out making 2 gallons at a time, but that meant I had to make tea every other day.  So I've kept increasing how much I make.

The other night I made 9, yes, 9, gallons of tea! That should last us a week.  I think, I'll have to stop upping the amount, because I have no idea where else I'd put it... Haha!  So, yeah, we're addicts...

Have a great day!

Unthankfulness

For some time the Hubs and I have been trying to teach our kiddos to be thankful and content with what they have.  This is an extremely hard lesson to teach and learn, because if you think about it have any of us really learned to be completely content?

The other day, Firecracker had been complaining and whining because he didn't have toys that other kids had.  This made the second or third day in a row that he had shown this kind of attitude.  So I decided I would show him some pictures online of kids in Africa that have nothing.

Firecracker sat with me and I showed him pictures of boys and girls that had to drink filthy water.  Some that had the bare minimum of clothing, etc.  One of the sites had a collage of pictures.  While we were perusing it we stumbled across one little African boy that was holding a play bow and arrow set.

What was Firecracker's reaction? You ask.  Well, it went something like this, "Mommy, why does that boy have a bow and arrow?  I don't have a bow and arrow."

The Hubs was sitting behind Firecracker and when I looked at him he was barely able to keep from laughing out loud.  It took me a moment to compose myself, but then I replied with, "that is the ONLY toy that little boy has.  Would you like me to take away all of your other toys and get you just one bow and arrow?"  Of course Firecracker didn't want that.

GAH!!  What am I going to do with these munches?  Lord, give me strength and wisdom for this crazy business called parenting!

Have a great day!

Anyway, to those of you that have been reading my ramblings for 3 years, God bless you.  And, you probably need to have your head checked! Hahaha!  For real, thanks for sticking with this crazy lady =).

Have a great day!

Chocolate

Have you ever had the good old fashioned NEED for chocolate? You know when you can't find any so you end up eating a little bit of everything else in the house hoping something will satisfy your everloving craving?

And then you have a moment where the Heavens open and Angels sing when you remember that your Hubs has chocolate stashed away to give to his AWANA kids (AWANA is a kids program we do at our church).  And you go to the stash, dig out the chocolate, use scissors to open the pack, because dang it it's still new.  He's totally gonna know, but in that moment you don't care, because you NEED chocolate.  And then you eat 2 Reese's cups and all is right with the world, except now you've got an upset stomach, because the chocolate isn't playing well with the cheese and crackers and tortilla chips you ate trying to satisfy the chocolate craving.

You've never experienced that huh?  I guess it's just me....

Hope you have a great day!

Own/ Disown

I have people in my family, that are not related by blood, nor are they married to an actual sibling.  However, we call them family.  Their kids call me Aunt and my kids call them Aunt/ Uncle (depending on the gender obviously :).

I have had someone tell me that they're not really my family.  We can be close, but we cannot/ should not refer to them as actual family.  I say BULL CRAP!!!  I have and will always refer to them as family.  If some families can "disown" their children for one reason or another, then I can "own" my own family.

So, never again tell me those whom I call family aren't my family.  Because THEY ARE! (impassioned rant over)

Oversharer

I am a habitual oversharer.  I'm that person that calls the Doctor's office to schedule an appointment and ends up telling the receptionist my whole life story, because she needs to know that to book my appointment, right?

The other day, I tried to call my friend.  I dialed her cell number from memory (a rarity!).  She didn't answer, so I opened up my contacts and called her.  Well, her husband answered and told me that he had her phone, because he had lost his.  I had accidentally called her cell phone again instead of her house.  Instead of apologizing and hanging up, I proceeded to tell her husband the whole story of why I called her phone twice...

Yeah, see, oversharer.  I can't help it I've always been this way. Recently, (in the past couple of years) I've been trying to reign it in.  I've been trying to tell people less, sometimes I succeed, but mostly I end up talking waaayyy too much.

Have a great day!

Making Up Songs

Sweet pea has entered into the, song writing stage of child hood.  Every child does it.  They make up songs that have no tune and the words are basically just long run on sentences that make no sense.

Allow me to share one of Sweet pea's most recent songs. (Ok, more like the essence of the song, because I could never recite it word for word.)

"Do you wanna build a snowman? Come on lets go and play. I never see you anymore, come out the door, it's like you've gone away.  We used to be best buddies, but now we're not.  I wish you would tell me why.  Do you wanna build a snowman? - Go away Anna- Ok, bye. (yes, it starts off with a part of the song from Frozen.  All of them start this way and segue into her own little world) The bunnies the say 'hop hop'. The froggy says ribbit, ribbit. Mommy and Daddy say we have to listen.  If we don't listen, we get in trouble.  I no like trouble.  Firecracker goes to school, but I stay home with Mommy..... etc."

She is so funny.

Have a great day!

Phone Calls

The people in my family are notorious for not answering their phones.  I am no exception to this rule.  It doesn't stop those of us calling the other from berating the one not answering.  A phone call usually goes like this:

*Dials family member
*Rings
* Goes to voicemail
*Hang up (because you know they won't listen to it, so you might as well save your breath)

"For crying out loud, ______!!!  Answer your phone!!!  Why don't you keep it closer to you?  Did you forget to turn the ringer back on after church?  Why do you bother paying a cell phone bill if you're not going to bother to answer your phone?!"

*Wait a few minutes and try again

In all fairness we don't usually say all of those lines, it's usually only one or two of those lines and then we're done.  Now, if we've called more than once and they still haven't answered, most likely we will hurl all of these lines off in one long diatribe!  And, whenever the other person does answer the phone we let them know about it.
However, we cannot be too self righteous, because throwing stones when you live in a glass house is very dangerous.

Before I get berated by my family for any inaccuracies, I must say that my 2 brothers and my Hubs are not included in this.  Oh sure, they do the ribbing, but they almost always answer their phones.  So they are allowed to get by with a little more verbal abuse than others ;). The rest of us live under the bus they throw us under.... No point in getting out, because we'll just end up being thrown back under there the next time we miss a call.

This phone call-itis apparently is catching.  It is not relegated to only blood family members.  It's like as soon as you become a family member you automatically stop answering phone calls.  Or maybe it's that your brain chooses to ignore the sound of the phone ringing?  I really don't know, but there is something...

 Have a great day!

Longest Week Ever

I know I was trying to get back into the swing of things, but was it just me or did last week drag on FOREVER? (read "forever" in the voice of Squints from the movie The Sand Lot. And if you haven't seen the Sand Lot, go to the store, get it, watch it immediately.  Don't worry, we'll all wait..... Back?  Wasn't it a great movie?!  Yeah, I love it too, thus the quote.  Ok, stop distracting me!  Back to last week.)

For real, it's like we lived half a school year in one week last week.  It wasn't bad, just really hard to get adjusted to non summer, do whatever you feel like today, life.

Have a good day!

You Might Be A Mamma If...

You might be a Mamma if:

- You have ever knowingly carried someone else's poop around in your purse.

- You find a toy elephant on your sink in the bathroom in the middle of the night and don't think twice about it.

- It is not uncommon for someone to literally jump on you to wake you up in the morning shouting, "Mommy! I want to watch Mickey Mouse!!"

- You have ever sneaked  into a closet/ pantry to eat chocolate.

- You have ever pretended to change your name for the day, because you're sooooo tired of hearing, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy... etc.

I know there are more of these that could be added, but I  can't think of them right now.  If you can think of them please, feel free to share them =).

Have a great day!

The First Day of School

Ok, so I know this post is a few days late, but the real first day was super chaotic.  So we're going to pretend that I posted this on time.  I'm wacky, join me in my funky world for one post.  Then you can go back to being normal :).

Today is Firecracker's first day in Kindergarten.  I can't believe my baby is 5 and headed off to school... I know he went to school last year, but that was preschool.  It wasn't as big a deal to me.  Don't ask me why, because I couldn't put that into words, it's too funky for even me to figure out, but trust me the feelings are true.

There were no tears today.  Firecracker was excited.  He even came into my room to get me.  He was all excited saying, "Mommy!  It's a SCHOOL DAY!!"  I'm so glad he's happy about it.  It'd be much more difficult if I had to force him to go.

Here are some pictures of my sweet baby boy ready to head into his first day of school.

Firecracker and his first day of school sign

Excited about school!

A new back pack is one of the best parts about school!

Did you notice on the sign that Firecracker wants to be a wind surfer when he grows up?  Such high aspirations.....

Have a great day!

Carl

I had a random memory the other day, which I feel the need to share with you.  When I was in college, I had a friend Mr. S.  We were chatting one day, and I have no idea how, but it came up that I'd never been given a real nick name.  Mr. S. was shocked by this.  So he decided he was going to give me a nick name.  And from then on to him I was Carl.  He's so funny!  Random memory over :)

Have a great day!

The Fun Place

Recently, I was talking with a friend about my childhood home.  Not the house itself, although we chatted about that later, but about the atmosphere of the home.

My parents had an open door policy for our home. Literally.  We NEVER locked the back door of our home.  The front door and the side doors were locked, but the back door was always unlocked.  It was not unusual to come home and find a friend in our house because they needed something. If you needed anything: a place to sleep, a friendly conversation, dinner, or a shoulder to cry on our house was open to you.

We constantly had people in our home that were not "blood" relatives. But just because they weren't blood didn't mean we didn't love them and treat them like family.  There are a few that to this day we still claim as family. (We just can't get rid of them! hahaha!)

Our house was always fun and full of surprises.  Like having a food fight at the dinner table. Or informing whomever was there at the moment that they were going to play a game of boggle with us.  Or just witty repartee (aka really, really corny jokes and puns).  Also, my Mom is a major English lover.  Therefore, if you stepped foot in our house you had to be prepared to use correct grammar or be corrected. This has always been a habit for all 4 of us kids, but apparently it bugs the mess out of people....

And I grew up thinking that was completely normal.  Everybody has that type of home life right?  As I've gotten older, I've realized this is the exception, not the rule.  Most people don't walk into their home to find someone else there (unless it's a robbery, and that's not a GOOD surprise).  Most people are surprised if someone shows up at your house unannounced just to chat for an hour or two.

It may have been an unusual home, but I wouldn't have traded it for the world.  Now, looking back, I see just how blessed I am.  Not only do I have parents that love me and are willing to do anything for me, but also they loved all who entered.  There was no condemnation in our home.  Our friends were always welcome and loved and often my friends became good friends with my Mom because she would take the time to chat with them and laugh with them.

Why am I telling you all this?  Because I value my upbringing so much, and I want my children to have just as many good memories as I have.  I hope to be the kind of parent that my parents are to me.

Have a great day!

Flip Flop Girl

I am a flip flop girl.  I love them.  I'm addicted.  It has gotten to the point that when I wear any other kind of shoe my feet feel constrained and I can't wait til I can get back into my flops (as we lovingly refer to them).

I may need an intervention...

Daddy's Shirts?

I wear the Hub's shirts often.  I mostly wear them to sleep in.  The Hubs laughs and says something like, "are those my shirts or yours?" or "get your own shirts!"  I respond with something like, "why get my own when yours are right here? ;)"

The other day the Hubs was wearing one of his shirts and Sweet pea looked at him and said, "Daddy, why are you wearing Mommy's shirt?" The Hubs looked exasperated.  And grinning at him I said, "yeah, why are you wearing MY shirt?"

Poor guy.  I have more opportunities for wearing his shirts than he does.  Such is the life of a worker bee.

The Classics

There are sooooo many stupid shows on t.v. for kids now days (I sound so old when I say it like that! haha!).  It's frustrating.  Well, last night I decided to see if I could find some good 'ol cartoons for my munches.  I went on you tube and found a bunch of old loony toons that included Bugs bunny, Daffy duck and Wile E. coyote: genius. (Yes, I know I'm a bad mom for letting my kids watch t.v. that isn't educational. )

The kids LOVED them.  The classics never go out of style, baby!

Have a great day!

Broken

I know I have written about my depression and anxiety issues before.  I am not seeking attention of any kind, but this blog is essentially about my life and all the weirdness that comes with it.  Well, depression is part of my life.  I'll understand if you don't want to read about it, but sometimes it helps me to write it out.  If you wanna skip this and come back another day that's totally cool.

Saturday I had a really hard day and spent the majority of the day in bed.  I thought maybe I'd be ok on Sunday, at least I hoped I would be.  I was ok at first.  We went into church and sat through the sermon and half way through I started streaming tears.  The pastor had told a sad story, it made me think of a loved one that is now in Heaven.  So I sat there in service balling like a baby.

I managed to pull myself together enough that we were able to go to Sunday school.  After Sunday school I told the Hubs I really needed to go home.  We were supposed to go to my Parent's house to celebrate their anniversary.  I just couldn't go.

I was so upset with myself the whole way home.  I know I'm broken.  I feel like Humpty Dumpty.  No amount of attempts to fix me will ever put me together again like I should be.  Oh trust me, the meds help.  I would be 1,000 times worse without my meds.  And I thank the Lord for them constantly.  However, I know that this isn't normal and I wish so much that I could be normal.

I often tell the Hubs that I'm sorry that I'm broken.  He always replies, "it's not something you can control.  I understand." (He is such a wonderful man.  I dare you to find a man 1/2 as wonderful.)
I am on the verge of rambling.  So I think I'm going to stop here.

Have a great day!

Love

Love has become something our society takes lightly.  We hear people say things like, "I fell so deeply in love with them."  Or, "one day we woke up and realized we had fallen out of love."  I have heard these so often and just dismissed them as most everyone does anymore.  But when you take a moment to stop and really think about it, it's a load of CRAP!

People, Love is not a feeling.  Sure, when you start a new relationship you get all gooey inside when he says you look pretty, or he holds your hand, or having your first kiss (I have to speak from a girl's perspective here, because I'm a girl and I have NO IDEA what goes on in a guy's head).  That stuff is fun and incredible and makes our girlie, little hearts go pitter pat.  However, that is not love.  That my darlings, is infatuation.  Infatuation does go away.  Those feelings become more dulled, because they are normal and comfortable.  If you're lucky those feelings develop into something so sweet and precious you can't help but want to hold on with everything you have.

Love is being there when your husband (again speaking from the girl's perspective, because it's really the only one I can give) is puking at 3 am and trying to help him, while he lays on the bathroom floor telling you to leave him alone and let him die. (Not over dramatic at all...... ;)  Love is keeping your mouth shut when you really, really, really want to tell him he's doing something wrong.

Love is being kind when your husband is grouchy. (Honestly, I think I get more grouchy than he does, so in this case he loves me waaaayyyyy more ;) It is embodied when you know your husband is hurting in some way and you know you can't fix it, all you can do is hug him and hold him and tell him that you love him.

These things take WORK.  Love is not a feeling that you fall into and fall out of.  Love is a choice!  You choose to be kind, sweet, hold your tongue, not being annoyed because your husband didn't do something the minute you asked him to (he's not your kid, he doesn't have to "obey" right away...). I'm not gonna lie, there will be days when you wanna strangle your husband or your kids or whomever.  It happens, but even on those days choose to love them.  You don't have to trip over yourself to make grand gestures to them just love them any way you know how. (No, you can't love someone with throwing a chair at their face or anything like that ;)

Today choose to love those around you.  Don't give up when it gets rough, because guess what?  Life gets hard!

Have a great day!

Not Working

Sweet pea is such a little character.  She has started telling me things "aren't working" when they aren't doing what she thinks they should be doing.

For example, the other morning Sweet pea was eating a bowl of cheerios.  She was getting close to the bottom of the bowl.  She was having trouble getting the last few cheerios onto her spoon.  She was very exasperated! She looked over at me and said, "Mommy, cereal is not working!"

Hahaha!  She's a nut.  Gotta love the way their little minds work.

Have a great day!

Legoland

Firecracker has been begging to go to Legoland since his friend, O,
went for his birthday about 2 years ago.  Finally, last week My Mama and I took him.  Well, actually we took Firecracker, Sweet pea, Princess and Tank.  Oh the fun they had!

They got to visit the land of Chima, which I'm still not entirely sure what that is.  Obviously it's some kind of Lego thing, but since Firecracker isn't THAT into Legos yet I am happily out of the loop on that one.  They got to ride a real roller coaster.  They got to play in a splash park, and drive real(ish) cars and boats!

The 4 kids had a fantastic time.  My Mama and I had fun watching them have so much fun.  The not great part was the heat.  Man was it hot.

Here are some pictures of our fun day:
One of the best parts was that most rides had a little area like this for the kids to play in while the adults waited in line for the ride.  The kids were MUCH happier playing for 20 minutes than standing in line for 20 minutes!

 Good times!

Have a great day!

A Special Kind of Stupid

We've already talked about how I'm an idiot.
Well, I have taken my stupidity one step further.  The other day I was multitasking like any good mommy does.  I was in a hurry and I needed to super glue something, and I needed to eat something so I was eating a sandwich.

I had the sandwich in one hand and the super glue in the other.  The glue started to drip so I wiped it up.  Right about then my sandwich started to slip so I stuck it in my mouth.  I finished the gluing and went into the kitchen to put every thing away.

About that time I thought, "hmm why is the bread sticking to the back of my teeth?"  After further inspection it turns out that it wasn't bread stuck to the back of my teeth, but super glue!  I guess some how I managed to get some super glue on my sandwich!

This kind of stuff can only happen to me!!

On the bright side, I now know that if you get super glue on your teeth you can get rid of it by letting butter sit on it and then scrub it with a cloth.  However, you have to repeat this LOTS of times.  Ugh, last night I ended up eating more butter than even Paul Dean would even want!

Have a great day... And steer clear of sandwiches with super glue on them!

The Bath Tub

The bath tub is a magical place.  The kids LOVE to take baths.  However, I'm not excited to deal with 30 minutes of bath time right before bed.  By the time it's 30 minutes til bed time I'm more than ready to get the kids showered and into bed.

The solution?  Bath time in the morning.  I know they are not squeaky clean at night time right before they get into their beds, however, they are happy because they get nice looooonnng bath times and I get close to an hour (each kid gets around 30 minutes of tub time, including the actual washing of themselves) of no fighting.

"No fighting?  Ms. T, how do you manage that?" You may ask.  Well, if you think about it, there can be only 1 child in the tub at a time.  Therefore, one is bathing and playing and having a grand ol' time, while the other is playing with toys and such all by themselves.  Voila!  No fighting!!!

At this point in the summer, the kids are sick of each other.  They are fine if we are busy going somewhere, or they are doing a craft.  However, it's just not feasible to be able to go somewhere every single day.  And there are some days I just plain don't want to deal with a craft or some other activity that I have to set up, over see and clean up.  I know I'm a terrible mother.

Anyway, every once in a while a nice bath day is just what we all need!  =)

Have a great day!

867-5309

Firecracker has reached that age where he needs to start memorizing phone numbers and street addresses.  We started working on memorizing my phone number the other day and he wasn't getting it.  He would get the numbers mixed up or forget how to start.

After several tries I had an idea.  I remembered learning that if you learn something through song it sticks in your memory.  Using this theory, I decided to put MY phone number to the tune of 867-5309.  You know what?  Within 10 minutes Firecracker could sing my number to you!

Thank you, Tommy Tutone, for making a song with a phone number already in it so I didn't have to try and make one up on the fly!

Have a great day!

Little Kid Dictionary 3

Sadly, my kiddos are getting so grown up that they don't say as many messed up words in their little kid language.  However, there are still a few that are still around.  I will mark F after a word if Firecracker uses it or S after a word if Sweet pea uses it. Without further ado here they are!

*Wargin( pronounced war- gin)- Orange
Usage- "I like the color wargin" (F & S)

*Pink my toes- Paint my toes. This is more of a phrase rather than a singular word, but it was too cute not to include. (S)

*Chop stick- Lip balm
Usage: "Mommy, may I have some chop stick?"  (S, F used to say it, but he says it right now =(

* Coconuts- scattered dots
Usage: "I like those coconuts on your dress" (S)

*Asausted- tired
Usage: "I'm so ausausted!" (F)

*The Branch- A green, mean, Dr. Seuss character
Usage: "Can we please watch the Branch who stole Christmas today?"  (S)

*Mana- A yellow fruit
Usage: "Mommy, I'd like to eat a mana, please." (S)

*Hambaid- A band worn on the head
Usage: "Mommy and I wear hambaids to church."(S)

*Lotion- A large body of water that has waves and a sandy shore
Usage: "When I put this shell to my ear I can hear the lotion." (S)

Have a great day!

The "Branch"

Recently, Sweet pea has become addicted to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".  We watch the movie, read the book (and when we get to the parts where they sing in the movie, we have to sing the songs... which doesn't go all that well considering we don't know all the words... Yet...)

Anyway, Sweet pea can't pronounce Grinch right.  She calls him, the Branch.  And while we're watching the movie and the "branch" starts stealing things she tells me, "Mommy, the branch doesn't please Jesus!!"  Things like that make my heart sing.  I love my munchkins so much!

Have a great day!

Ice Skate Sticker

The other day, Sweet pea got an ice skate sticker from some where.  She was playing with it and then said, "Mommy, look at me! I'm skating!" When I looked over she had put the sticker on the bottom of her foot and then was pretending she was ice skating across the room.  Sweet baby!  I love how their little minds work.

Pink Eye

A few weeks ago, I took Firecracker and Sweet pea to the doctor's office for their yearly check ups.  The next day I got pink eye. Coincidence?  I think not.  Anyway, I steered as clear as possible away from people so that I didn't give it to anyone else.

My niece's birthday party happened to fall on the Saturday of my self quarantine.  Unfortunately, the Hubs couldn't take the kids to the party because he had another obligation.  Thankfully though the party was at my Mom and Dad's house.  So I took the kids and quarantined myself in my parent's bedroom.

When I came out of the room to tell someone something (yeah, I don't remember what it was or who it was addressed to... my memory is AWFUL).  My older brother, Mr. Pickles, started yelling, "Ahhh! Unclean! Unclean!"  He thinks he's hilarious...

My family took care of my munchkins for me during the party.  When it was time to go home, I got clorox wipes and wiped down every thing I had touched in my parent's room.  Then the kids and I left.

Needless to say, having pink eye is for the birds!  I felt like a 7 year old.  I mean it's not extremely common for adults to get pink eye.  So really this just confirms that I'm not normal! =)

Have a great day!
Ms. T

Worst Aunt Ever

Last night was too eventful in a bad way.  Around 6:30 my pregnant SIL, Mrs. Pickles, called and asked if we could watch her kids while she and my brother went to the E.R. .  Mrs. Pickles had been stung by a scorpion and the midwife had told her to go into the E.R. and have them look at it just to be safe.

It was ironic, because earlier in the day I had told Mrs. Pickles that I wanted to have my niece, Princess, and nephew, Tank, over for a sleep over before school started back.  Now, these were not the circumstances I wished for, but it was time for a sleep over!

I met them at the hospital and picked up Princess and Tank.  The kids played for awhile and then I told them to pick up the toys for bed time.  I was in my room when I heard a loud thud.  Never a good thing coming from a room filled with children.  Then I heard a blood curdling scream.  Mind you I was already running down to Firecracker's room to see what the problem was.  When I got into the room Tank's head was bleeding A LOT!  He was on the top bunk, one of the kids turned the ceiling fan on and one of the blades caught him.  And the World's Worst Aunt Award goes to.... Ms. T!!  Thank you, thank you, I'd like to thank all the little people that get injured around me for the chance to receive this embarrassing award. (please read this with extreme sarcasm)

Another bit of irony for you, Mrs. Pickles texted me that they were leaving the hospital just as I was about to call her.  20 minutes later Tank was calm and watching The Incredibles on the Hub's phone while Mr. and Mrs. Pickles got the kid's stuff together and got ready to leave.  By the time they were ready to leave Tank said, "I'm not bleeding does that me we can sleep here?"  HA!  Talk about resilient!  I promised Tank that we would have a sleep over soon.

At least the fact that Tank still wanted to stay at my house proves he still loves me.... Or maybe he just loves the Hubs, Firecracker and Sweet pea...

Have a great day!
Ms. T

P.s. The Hubs has removed all the blades off the ceiling fan in Firecracker's room to prevent this from happening again.  So pretty much it's just a really ugly light fixture, but no one should end up with a head wound again!  That's a big ol' plus!!

Anniversary Celebration Weekend

I had told you that June 29th was our anniversary.  Well, my wonderful parents watched the munchkins overnight for us this last weekend so we could have some time to ourselves.  It wasn't a typical "get away", but we had a great time nonetheless.

Friday morning, we dropped off the kids with my parents and headed to IKEA.  I'd been wanting to go for awhile, and the Hubs wanted to make me happy ;).  He's such a smart man!  Plus he likes their hot dogs...  After IKEA we went to Outback for an early dinner.   Mmmmm it was good!  Then we headed home to watch a movie.

Saturday, the Hubs and I got up and went to the gun range!  I'd say that we did it, because he likes that stuff, but I wanted to go just as much as he did. =)  We did our shooting, and then looked at some guns.  Did you know that they now make guns that are PINK?!  Cray-Cray!  I thought about buying one, I'm not gonna lie.  Then we went to get the munchkins.

Like I said, not a typical "get away", but it was fun for us.  It was great to have some time to reconnect.  Every couple should take some time to themselves every once in awhile.

Have a great day!

Me 3

You know the phrase "me too" and every once in awhile some one will pipe up with "me three".  Well, Sweet pea has latched onto the "me three" phase.  If someone says, "I want ice cream." She pipes right up with "me three!"

I really have no idea where it came from.  I must say though, it's cute. =)

Have a great day!

7 Years

Yesterday was the Hubs and my 7th anniversary.  I'm still so amazed that God gave me such a wonderful man to be my husband.  We have had our ups and downs just like any marriage has.  We are terrible at communicating with each other we're working on it constantly.  So day by day we are becoming less terrible, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. (Sometimes I tell him something 2 or 3 times because I can't remember if I've told him at all.  I have a TERRIBLE memory)

We are no longer newly weds that believe that "everything will work itself out, we don't have to really 'work' at marriage! It comes so easy to us, because we looooovvveee each other!"  Yeah, tell me one newly wed that doesn't have this view and I'll point you to a big fat liar!!!  The Hubs and I know that marriage takes a lot of work, but he is worth it to me!!

We also know that comparatively our marriage is still young.  We know people that have been married 50 years or more.  I aspire to have that kind of marriage.  I want people to look at us in 50 years and say, "Awww!  When we're that old I hope we still hold hands and love each other like that!"

Everyday that God gives us together is another day in paradise this side of Heaven.

Have a great day!

Highness

Lately, Firecracker wants to watch the new, animated version of the Star Wars series.  It's not something I love, but the Hubs enjoys it so they watch it together.  On one of those shows Anakin Skywalker has to go undercover to try and thwart a Queen's plans.  Through the entire episode, Anakin calls her "Highness".

Now, you know the back story.  Well, as most kids do, Firecracker has been running around wanting to play Star Wars.  He assigns each member of the family a character.  Recently, I have been dubbed "Highness".

Anytime either of the kids want or need something they've been coming to me saying, "Highness, could I please ________".  Honestly, I've been enjoying it.  I mean how often in life does one consistently get referred to as royalty? (Aside from the royal families).  Therefore, as long as this phase lasts I'm amongst the elite!  At least at home I am amongst the elite... Don't pop my little bubble! =)

Have a great day!

Idiot

Do you ever do something and then think, "well, that was idiotic."?  Well, I had one of those moments the other day.  I had taken the kids to the park.  Firecracker was trying to do the monkey bars, he was basically getting the idea, but I decided to show him how to do it.  Now these weren't regular monkey bars, they were the short ones for little kids.  In order to show him I had to bend my knees and hold myself just so.  (I'm sure you can see where this is going)

Well, I got off balance and fell.  This normally wouldn't be a big deal, however, because I was on the short monkey bars I landed on my knees.  I got a big ol' scrape and cut.  Basically I showed Firecracker exactly how NOT to cross the monkey bars.

I forgot to mention, we weren't the only ones on the playground.  There was another mom and kid on the same play set.  And they got to witness my *ehem* Proud moment.  Right after my "moment" the mom gave me a funny look and she and her kid went to the other side of the playground.  Apparently, I'm a bad influence.  Or she didn't want my idiocy to rub off.  Either way, I understand.

Have a great day!

The Beach

I have a true love for the beach.  I have many memories of going to the beach as a kid.  Every one of those memories is a happy one.  (With the exception of the time a seagull swooped down and bit my finger and took my chicken wing!)

With as busy as life has been lately it has been a long time since our last beach trip.  It's a true disservice to my kiddos!  They need to have fond memories too.  I know you can make good memories other places too, but when you have such wonderful memories at the beach and a beach within driving distance why wouldn't you want to take them?

It had gotten to the point that I was missing the beach.  Like I would miss a friend.  I missed the smells, the suntan lotion, the sea breeze, the sound of the seagulls, the feel of the water, the softness of the sand beneath my toes.  All the wonderful things that come wrapped up in a pretty beach package.

So on the 5th Ms. L, my bestie in case you forgot, and Ms. S, another one of my "inner circle", and I went to the beach with our horde of children in tow!  (Ms. S has 5 kids and had brought her brother's 3 kids with her! Brave woman!  Ms. L and I each had 2.  So we had a total of 12 kids with us!)  We had such a good time.  We swam, laughed, let the kids play in the sand and made a day of it.

Did that one trip cure me of my beach need?  Nope!  It only served to remind me how great the beach is and how much time I want to spend there!  I foresee many more beach trips this summer!

Have a great day!
 Ms. T
