5 Question Friday!

Good Morning, Friends!  It’s the weekend starting at about 3 o’clock today!  Yeehaw!  Gotta love weekends.  Free time, family, and God’s house!  How much better could it get?
Alrighty, on with the 5 question Friday fun!  As always thanks Mama M. to for letting us link up!

1. Do you prefer to drive to your vacation spot or fly?
Where am I going?  And is this with or without children?  When we went to Pennsylvania this year we drove.  Flying would have been much easier, but it also would have been about 3x the cost.  Our budget couldn’t have supported that so driving it was!  I’m gonna say my PREFERENCE would be to fly if it’s far away.  It’s so much easier, and I’m not all about long car rides.

2. If you could live any where in the world, where would you go and why?

Timbucktoo is where I’d live.  Just because it sounds so darn funny!  Everytime I wrote my address I’d giggle =).  Seriously though, I’d probably live right where I am.  I’m happy here.

3. Should grown women wear leggings?

This is a “it depends” question for sure.  If the grown woman is wearing the leggings under a dress then sure, they’re cute and stylish.  However, if the woman is wearing the leggings as pants?  NO!  NEVER!  That is disgusting.  Why not just wear your pantyhose as pants?  Sick nasty.

4. If you could change your name to any other name, would you? And what would it be?

When I was young I really wanted to change my name.  I don’t remember what the name was that I would have chosen rather than my current name, but I was all about it.  But now that I’m a grown up?  Nah.  I’m good.  Don’t you realize how much work that would take?  I’d have to change my driver’s license, my social security card etc.  And have you seen the lines at those places?  If I can avoid that I’m gonna thankyouverymuch!

5. What magazines to you have subscriptions to?
None.  I’m not really a magazine fan.  If I’m gonna read it’s gonna be a book.  I’m not really into reading about which dress would look best on my body shape etc.  I’m a grown woman.  I should be able to look in a mirror and tell if a dress looks right or not.  And if I can’t tell I ask a friend.  That is why God gave us friends.
I will say there was a time when a good friend of mine and I would buy those dumb celebrity gossip magazines and go through them alone and put sticky notes all through them making ridiculous comments about stuff.  Then we would trade.  It was a lot of fun reading the stuff she said. =)
That’s all folks!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Ms. T

Toothpaste

Every little kid I've ever met loves the taste of toothpaste.  I've seen them eat the little squirt their mom puts on their toothbrush.  I've even seen them suck on their toothbrush long after their done brushing their teeth just to get a little more of the taste.  So it doesn't surprise me one bit that Firecracker likes toothpaste.

Recently I have started allowing Firecracker to put his own toothpaste on his toothbrush.  Because he is Mr. Independent don't you know? Anywho, he's been doing really well with it.  Occasionally he puts a little too much toothpaste on, but it's all part of learning right? Well, the other day I allowed Firecracker to go into his bathroom and begin brushing his teeth without me.  I went in to check on his progress a few minutes later..... Wanna guess what I found?  My baby boy sucking the toothpaste out of the tube!!!!!!!  GROSS!!!!  Have I ever told you that boys are gross?  No, well they are! Hahahahaha!

Hope you all have a great day!

Name It And Claim It

Recently Firecracker has subscribed to the "name it and claim it" way of living.  It's actually quite humorous.  For instance he doesn't ask me if I want to play with him instead he says, "Mommy, you want to play with me."  Or he'll say, "I go to the store with you." =)
Or, "I finish all my dinner I get a fruit snack."

My favorite one so far came the other night.  We were eating dinner and Firecracker pipes up with, "tomorrow, I'm going to have ice cream." Hahaha!!  The Hubs and I giggled a little and asked him why he thought that.  He replied, "I just do".  Such a nut!  Then the very first thing he told me when he woke up the next morning?  "Mommy! I have ice cream today!"  Hahaha!

Now obviously, Firecracker is not the boss in our home, but he still says these things.  And they crack me up! He's such a little nut ;).  With out nuts though, life would be a boring place!

Hope you have a great day!
Ms. T

P.S. Just so you don't think badly of my parenting skills Firecracker is required to rephrase these statements into proper questions and say please. They still make me smile though, because he believes them with all his little ice cream loving heart!

Mental Illness

Mental illnesses are tricky.  Those who have never suffered with one can never fully understand.  I'm not saying you can't love and support someone who suffers with one, (or maybe more than one) but you'll never fully know their battles.  You may wonder why I'm choosing to write this and without getting all melodramatic I'll explain briefly.  I was recently informed by my doctor that he believes that although my depression and anxiety were kick started by my post partum, he doesn't think they'll ever go away.  I'm showing too many signs of them becoming permanent.

While this is discouraging, I'm determined to fight.  I'm a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend and now to my titles I get to add total nut case. =)  I refuse to let all those people down.  I am determined that this mess will not control my life, although it might try.  I will have ups and downs, but I will come back up!

Those of us with mental illness are often thought of as being snobs, because we don't really want to talk to people.  And asking us to talk to NEW people?! that is 10 times harder.  We're thought of as being aloof and that we think ourselves better than others.

This is not the case at all.  We struggle.  We have days where all we can do is get out of bed, get dressed and make it to where we are going.  Sometimes we can't even make it where we are going.  Our minds won't let us.  I know that sounds silly, but it's true.

It often feels as though a huge weight has been put on the middle of your chest so that even the effort of breathing feels hard.  New situations, new people even new places are hard to handle.  Forget about NEW even places that we've been 1,000 times can feel daunting.  I can't really explain the actual feeling I get, but it's scary.  And the worst part?  Is that we know we shouldn't feel like that.  We know it's not normal, but we can not help it.  We can not control it.  It controls us.  It's almost like you can see yourself and you're willing yourself not to be this way, but it's futile.

And if we do happen to get where we're going and make it all the way through whatever it is we came there for, once we get home we are completely exhausted.  Socializing is work.  I love people, I really do.  And I have some people that I love so much it pains me to not see them.  But it's still work.  Let me see if I can explain this for those that have never experienced it...  After a few hours of being around people (and new people, no matter how much I like them are harder) I am so wiped out that I come home and spend at least 2 hours in bed.  I feel like I've run a marathon, I'm just not as sweaty ;).  It's not fair to my kids or the Hubs and I know that, but it's not optional.  IT'S NECESSARY.

The Hubs has gotten really good about reading my looks.  All I have to do is look at him and he'll say, "we need to go home, don't we?"  Have I told you I love that man?!  Then on the way home I cry and tell him I'm sorry.  He always tells me it's ok, but I hate it.  I hate it for him, I hate it for me, and I hate it for my kids.  I pray that they will never have to deal with this.

Those of us with mental illness feel broken.  Like we're Humpty Dumpty and no matter how much glue you use we'll never be normal.

I just wanted to give you a little insight into the world some of us face.  I was not trying to depress anyone, or get sympathy for myself.  But please understand that sometimes people may seem snobbish or aloof, but they're really just having a hard time breathing right that minute.  Another day they may be just fine and would love to talk to you.  Give us more than one chance before writing us off.  We crazy people need love too ;).

Hope you have a great day!

Photo Bomber

The other day I was having a photo shoot for this adorable little guy:

When all the sudden Sweet Pea wanted in on the action.  She crawled right in the middle of the back drop and started saying "Cheese".

Please note the two different shoes.  She chose her shoes on this day.

She's such a little ham =).  Why can't she be this cooperative when it's her turn for pictures?  Ehh life's mysteries ;).

Hope you all have a great day!

5 Question Friday!

Good Morning, Friends!  It’s the last day of work before the weekend!  Yippee!!  Let’s get this party started.  Once again thanks to Mama M. for letting us link up!  Alrighty, here we go.

1. What is one grammar issue you cannot let go without correction?
Well, see my Mama is an English teacher.  So growing up we all corrected each other’s grammar.  It was almost a game.  Even when my friends would come over they would jump right in laughing along with the rest of us. It wasn’t til my older brother started dating my now sister in law that I realized not everyone thinks it’s a fun game…..  So the answer to this question is: I notice almost all improper grammar usage, but I try to hold my tongue.

2. What's your favorite thing about fall?

The temperatures has to be my favorite thing about fall.  Where we live it’s hot most of the year.  And while I’m not going to complain, because I’d much rather sweat than have to shovel snow, the fall weather is a nice change up =).

3. What's your favorite dish to take to a potluck?

I don’t have a “favorite” dish that I take to a pot luck.  You see I’m in famous for being able to cook a dish at home and it turn out great, and then I make it to take to a pot luck and it is horrible.  So much so that I have to stop on the way and pick up something from the store.  Is it performance anxiety?  Or is it just bad luck?  I don’t know, but it’s obnoxious!!!  I guess my answer to this question is, whatever the store has on sale…

4. When do you start Christmas (Holiday) shopping?

The day after Christmas.  The Hubs and I have a big family and though we don’t buy for all the adults (we do a name exchange), we do buy for all the kiddos.  And I love to do it, but it gets expensive.  So I shop all year round picking up things from clearance racks.  I do buy some things in the month of December, but I usually have the majority of my shopping done by early November at the latest.

5. Did you move homes a lot growing up?
Nope.  Before I was 7 we moved a few times, but then we moved to my home town and lived there for 17 years.  (The Hubs and I currently reside in the area and thankfully, my Mama and Daddy just moved back =).  I’m so grateful that my parents kept us in one place so we could go to the same school, and keep friends and all the other advantages with staying in one spot.

I hope you all have a great weekend!
Ms. T

Happy Birthdsy to Us!

Ok, not really Happy Birthday to Ms. L and I, because that's still a few months away, but Happy Birthday to the blog!

One year ago today Ms. L and I started this crazy adventure.  And while we've had a few missteps here and there it's been a fun ride!  I hope we have many more years ahead!  Thanks to all of you that are nutty enough to keep coming back!  And reading about our craziness! =)

Hope you all have a great day!

"Those" Toys

Anyone that is a parent knows exactly what I mean when I say "those toys".  You know the ones.  The ones when your kid decides they want to play with them you cringe inside.  The toys that make all kinds of obnoxious noise and the ones that have tiny pieces that once they're out of the box you will never, ever be able to find them all and forget about getting them repacked in the box the way they came.

I don't know about the rest of you, but in our house these toys are usually gifted to our children by well meaning family members.  And sometimes family members that are getting us back for an obnoxious toy we gave their kid ;).  I'd like to say that it isn't so, but yes, people use your children's enjoyment for obnoxious toys to get back at you =).  hahaha!

My most despised toy right now is a toy train that is super loud and it sings.  The other day the train broke. In my head- and maybe at naptime too- I did a major happy dance and shouted YEEHAW!!!  Outside I was sad for Firecracker, because he loved it.  Right now my house is so much quieter.  Ok, it's not even close to quiet, but that train was LOUD (and no it didn't have an option to make it quieter, because the makers of the train hate parents, apparently).

Hope you all have a great day!
Ms T.

Rusty

Ms. L has started coaching a volley ball team at a nearby Christian school.  The team is very green, and young.  She invited me to come to one of the practices, because she knows how much I love the game.

I was so excited to get a chance to go play (sort of) some volley ball!  Once we were on the court it was VERY apparent how rusty I had gotten.  You see I played for years in high school and college and was 1/2 way decent.  But oi vay I couldn't even get an over hand serve over the net!  Good grief!  I used to be able to serve consistently.  UGH!  Once I thought about it though it's been a good 5 years and 2 babies ago since I've played volley ball of any kind and probably 6 years since I played some what competitively.  And 10 years since I played seriously competitively.  Gosh, am I really that old?  Geez....

Oh well!  We had a great time.  And I venture to say Ms. L will invite me back to play with her another day =).

Hope you all have a great day!

5 Question Friday!

Good Morning, Friends!  It’s the weekend!  You can all do your happy dances now.  I know I am!  Alrighty, on with the 5 question Friday fun.  Once again thanks to Mama M. for letting us link up.

1. How long did it take for you to find your wedding dress? (Wedding dress pics anyone?)
Well, one day Ms. L and I went to a few shops and looked at some dresses (there was one I particularly liked) but I didn’t have the money to buy any yet so it was mere looking.  Then I went with my Mama, Daddy, My friend Ms. A. and Ms. L.  And the wedding dress gods were on my side that day, because we were there only a few hours and I found my dress.  It fit perfectly and was even the perfect length.  NO alterations necessary!  And to top it all off it was on sale for 200.00!!! Tell me that ain’t the best thing?!
My Dad was sooooo funny.  When I tried that one on and liked it he was all, “yeah, it’s nice.  Whatever you want honey”.  THEN when the sales lady said, “Oh the tag is wrong.  It says 500, but this gown was actually just put on sale for 200.  Dad was like, “that’s the one!  Wrap it up.  We’ll take it!” Hahahahaha!!  Of course my Mama was more conscious of my feelings and said, “Ms. T, if this isn’t THE dress we’ll keep looking.”  But it was THE dress.

2. Someone in your general vicinity releases a NASTY smelling fart. Do you say anything or blow it off?

Most of the time I blow it off.  Unless it’s the Hubs and we’re alone.  Then we joke about it and say ever so loving things like, “oh my word!!  You’re so nasty!  What did you eat?!” Hahaha!

3. What is the scariest thing that happened to you or scared you recently?

Ok, see normal people would say things like, “a spider jumped out at me”, or “I saw a snake in the yard”, but not me. ‘Cuz, see I’m a Criminal Minds, Law and Order, The Closer etc. freak.  I love those shows.  However, I’m also paranoid.  These things do not go well together.  If I’ve  learned anything from these shows it’s to NEVER talk to strangers.  And sometimes its best not to even talk to people you know.  Because you think you know someone and then you accept their invitation to dinner and then find yourself locked in their sound proofed basement with LOTS of torture devices.  It happens ALL THE TIME, People!  Don’t believe me?  Watch Criminal Minds, Law and Order, The Closer etc.  You’ll see.  Plus don’t you know those shows are pretty much real life?!
Ok, so all that to say the scariest thing that has happened to me recently is that I took the kids on a walk yesterday.  We were just strolling along and this guy calls out to us and wants to ask about the neighborhood, because he’s just put in an offer on a house in our area.  I know, that’s not really all that scary, but he was driving a panel van.  A PANEL VAN, people!!!  Come on!  Panel vans are the creepiest vehicle there is!  All the guy would’ve had to do would’ve been to conk me over the head, drag me and my babies into that panel van and no one would ever see us again.  CREEPY!!!  And now you know just how very paranoid I am.  The end.

4. Favorite brand and flavor of ice cream.

I don’t really have a favorite brand of ice cream.  I’m an equal opportunity ice cream kinda gal.  Flavor wise I’d probably go with the new kind that has chunks of Reese’s cups in it!  Mmmmm!  Ohh or good ol’ chocolate chip cookie dough.  Or maybe some yummy mint chocolate chip!  (Notice a pattern? =)

5. Are you able to sleep well in hotels?
It depends, is the place clean? Is the bed comfy?  And am I there alone, or is the Hubs with me?  And does the door face outwards, or towards an inside hallway?
If the place is clean, the bed is comfy and I’m with the Hubs, yes I sleep very well in hotel rooms and it doesn’t matter which way the door faces.  However if I’m alone the door needs to face an inside hallway, the bed needs to be comfy, and the place needs to be clean.  And even with that I may still be uneasy.  Give me a break!  I’ve just gotten comfortable sleeping in my OWN HOUSE without the Hubs being there.  I watch too may shows like Criminal Minds, Law and Order and The Closer etc.  I know right now you’re thinking, “you really need to stop watching that stuff”.  But have you seen them?!  They’re REALLY good, and to be honest yes they're creepy, but they're helpful for instance you can learn life saving tips…. Come on now think about it.  Sure the nightly news will tell you that someone’s been kidnapped, but do they tell you that you should try and talk to your captor and get them to recognize you as a human being rather than an object? NO!  They just give you the facts.  Talk about a creepy thing to watch!  Ok, I’ll stop talking about my crime shows now =).
I hope you all have a great, crime free weekend!!
Ms. T

Entertainment For The Neighborhood

The other night the Hubs, kids and I were all in the front yard.  There was a puddle at the end of the drive way.  And while I'm usually an uber safety cautious Mama, I allowed Sweet Pea to play in the puddle.  We live in a cul de sac so I felt relatively safe allowing her to play in the puddle while the Hubs and I were standing there.

The Hubs called my attention to something and I looked away from Sweet Pea for a second.  When I looked back she was dangerously close to drinking some of the puddle water!  EWWWW!!  I yelled and told her to stop.  When I looked up there was a neighbor lady walking her dogs laughing.  Feeling secure that I'd gotten my point across I resumed talking to the Hubs.

Wanna guess what I saw when I looked back at Sweet Pea?  Yep, she was once again trying to drink the puddle water!  EWWWW!!  So I hollered again in ever such a becoming way.  She stopped just in time and I decided puddle time was done.  When I glanced back up the same neighbor lady was still watching and this time laughing harder than ever.....  Eh at least we could be a bright spot in someone's day =).

Hope you all have a great day!
Ms. T

(P.s. I'd love to show you pictures of this event, but my camera cord for the computer has gone the way of Jimmy Hoffa.  When I find it again I'll barrage you with cute pics =)
