The Beach

I have a true love for the beach.  I have many memories of going to the beach as a kid.  Every one of those memories is a happy one.  (With the exception of the time a seagull swooped down and bit my finger and took my chicken wing!)  

With as busy as life has been lately it has been a long time since our last beach trip.  It's a true disservice to my kiddos!  They need to have fond memories too.  I know you can make good memories other places too, but when you have such wonderful memories at the beach and a beach within driving distance why wouldn't you want to take them?

It had gotten to the point that I was missing the beach.  Like I would miss a friend.  I missed the smells, the suntan lotion, the sea breeze, the sound of the seagulls, the feel of the water, the softness of the sand beneath my toes.  All the wonderful things that come wrapped up in a pretty beach package.

So on the 5th Ms. L, my bestie in case you forgot, and Ms. S, another one of my "inner circle", and I went to the beach with our horde of children in tow!  (Ms. S has 5 kids and had brought her brother's 3 kids with her! Brave woman!  Ms. L and I each had 2.  So we had a total of 12 kids with us!)  We had such a good time.  We swam, laughed, let the kids play in the sand and made a day of it.  

Did that one trip cure me of my beach need?  Nope!  It only served to remind me how great the beach is and how much time I want to spend there!  I foresee many more beach trips this summer!

Good Kids

The other day I needed to shower and both Sweet pea and Firecracker were up.  When left unattended they can be rascals.  So I turned a show on T.V. and assigned each of them a couch.  I then told them they were not to get off the couch for ANY reason before I came out of the bathroom. (I gave them both a potty break before we started this).  I was in the shower/ getting dressed for about 20 minutes or so.  When I came out guess what I saw.  That's right! 2 kiddos sitting on their couches watching the show I'd turned on.  

Then the same day, I was watching my 2 nephews, E and N, along with Firecracker and Sweet pea.  It was nap time and I needed to put my 2 into bed, then take E and N to their house. (The Hubs was home, but he was sleeping, so he didn't help with nap time).

I really needed to get the kids in bed quickly, so I rushed them through the pre-nap steps (ie potty, hand washing, putting a pull up on Sweet pea etc) and told them to get in their beds.  I gave them kisses and told them to stay in their beds and go to sleep.

After laying them down, E, N and I left.  I didn't have to worry that my munchkins would get up and tear down the house while I was gone and the Hubs was sleeping.  I knew they would stay in their beds and sleep.  As I was driving away it dawned on me that not all children are that well behaved.  Now, I'm not saying that my kids are angels.  They're far from it, but it is amazing to me that I didn't have to worry at all about them during either instance.  

Thank you, Lord, for giving me good kids.  I love them to pieces, and I know I have so far to go in this game we call parent hood, but thank you for these small glimpses into how wonderful my little people are and can be.

Whoa Nelly

While I was teaching, I took the kids on a field trip to a children's science museum.  Sweet pea went on the field trip with us, because I thought she'd enjoy it.  The museum has a whole section that is a hands on kid's section.  The kids can run, play and learn all at the same time.  

I was standing watching Sweet pea play and kid I did not know came up to where Sweet pea was playing and threw a ball hard into her section.  I said, "whoa nelly!  You don't need to play that way, sir.  Play nicely please."  Unbeknownst to me one of the girls in my class was standing close by.  She came up and asked, "you know him?"  I said, "no, don't know that boy."  She looked at me funny and then said, "but you called him Nelly."  Hahaha!  Apparently, she has never heard anyone say "Whoa Nelly" before!

Imaginary Friend

Firecracker has started talking about his "imaginary" friend, D.F.  Where'd he come up with that name?  No clue.  The kid has an imagination that would go on for miles.  It's interesting to hear about all the adventures and silly things D.F. does.  

D.F. apparently doesn't like to wake up in the mornings, he plays with toys while Firecracker has to go to school.  D.F. rides in our van with us, and must be buckled into his own imaginary car seat.  It's fun to see how Firecracker's mind makes up situations for he and D.F. to explore together.  

The mind of a child is such a magical place!  Part of me hopes Firecracker and Sweet pea never grow up.  These little people are surrounded by an innocence and a magic that no grown person can ever replicate.  It's beautiful really.  I think it's part of the reason people fawn over little kids like they do.  They remember the time in their life when their toys and their parents were their entire world.

SCHOOLS OUT!!!!!!

"SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER! SCHOOLS OUT FOREVER!"

Ok so not really forever, but how many of you DIDN'T sing that in your head? Hmmmm? No, I'm not really an Alice Cooper fan, but everyone has heard "Schools Out" at least once in their life.  Alrighty, on with the show.  

I'm so excited for summer.  Firecracker is too.  For the last two or three weeks he has been telling me he doesn't want to go to school.  That he is tired of it.  Little does he know that he will be in school for the next 17 years!  (this is including college)

Adjusting to the new schedule has been interesting though.  I keep thinking it's the weekend.  I have to keep reminding myself that tomorrow isn't Sunday.  Because every night I keep thinking, "ok, I've gotta get stuff ready for going to church in the morning".  Ha!  No worries, I'm sure the adjustment won't take too long. =)

Best Friend

The other day I was working in the kitchen and out of the blue Sweet Pea just walked up to me, threw her arms around my legs and said, "Mommy, you're my best friend ever!" And just like that she was gone again.

There are no words.  I nearly cried.  Nothing prepared me for that, and it was such a sweet little moment.  It's these types of moments that make being a Mommy so worth it.  It makes up for cleaning up the puke, having to get up in the middle of the night to calm the munchkin, because they had a bad dream, fixing lunches, folding laundry (and having "help" while folding laundry), cleaning up pee/ poop when there is an accident etc.

Working Life

It's been forever since I've blogged and I'm sorry for that.  I know I should be better about it, but with working I barely have time to brush my teeth! (ok, so that's an exaggeration, but still I'm darn busy, and tired!) 

So life being a full time teacher and a full time Mamma.  WOW!  I had respect before for those Mammas that worked outside the home and came home to their second full time job, but I didn't realize just how hard it truly is!  I enjoy working again (actually more than I thought I would), but it is draining.  There are many nights I come home and fall into bed as soon as the munchkins go down for their bed time.  It is truly pathetic when a grown woman goes to bed at 7:30 or 8:00 depending on the evening.  So I'm just gonna own it.  I'm pathetic. 

I do enjoy getting to sneak peeks at Firecracker in his classroom during school time.  And I love having him wave to me from the playground calling out "That's my Mommy!"  to everyone that will listen.  It kinda makes me feel like a rock star that my kid is still so proud of me =).  

I will try to do better about updating you all.  Especially updating about the munchkins.  I'm not making any promises, but I'll try.
