Good morning, friends! Not sure if you've notice, but lately I haven't been doing a very good job of keeping up here on the blog. It's been really crazy busy, and to be honest, because this blog doesn't require clean clothes, need baths, follow me around and beg to be fed, and want me to play with it, it is one of the things that get put on the back burner.
I'm sure you all can empathize with this. I'll try to do better, but I make no promises, because even though the holidays are over I'm still a Mama and that will never change.
Have a happy New Year!

Purpose
*Fair warning* This post may make you uncomfortable. I'm sorry if it does, it will not hurt my feelings if you don't want to read it, or you can't finish reading it. I'm getting ready to be very blunt.
This last Sunday we had a substitute Sunday School teacher, Mr. J. I have heard him speak before, and I always enjoy his lessons. He brings the word.
Unlike what I was expecting, Mr. J didn't do a lesson on the Christmas story. Instead he asked our class if we could go to heaven right now, in this moment, would we choose to do it? Of course there were those that would and some that were not so sure, because it might mean leaving family behind.
Mr. J made the point that if we can still be useful for God's purpose here on earth then we need to be able to stay. This point really hit home to me. (this was not even close to the main point of the lesson, but it really struck me.)
It hit me hard, because, as many of you know I struggle with depression. I'm in a constant battle inside my own head. One of the things I've dealt with in the past are thoughts of suicide. Now, please don't freak out on me. I had those thoughts at my worst moments and since then I've gotten medication and I'm regularly seeing a doctor. So, no freaking out. Also, if you know me personally, please don't treat me any differently, or look at me with sad puppy dog eyes, because now you know how I struggle. Everyone deals with their own garbage in this life, and unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) this is the bitter cup I've been dealt. I say maybe fortunately, because there are so many worse things than what I struggle with. I'm saying all this not to get attention, or sympathy, because honestly, those are some of the last things I want in reference to this, but I say it to put myself out there. That is what I use this blog for to put down my thoughts. And as regular readers see my thoughts are crazy, hair brained and scattered, but more importantly honest.
Moving on, I sat there in class tearing up at the thought that if I had taken my own life I would have been cutting short the mission God has given me. Namely, my children. If I took my life I would be robbing them of a life with a Mommy. How could I possibly even think of doing that to them? I know I'm not a perfect Mommy. Sometimes I get frustrated and snap at them, or get aggravated when they spill something etc. But I am thier Mommy. No one else could possibly fill that role. Others may try, but no one could possibly love them like I can.
In those moments in Sunday School class, it's like God was talking to me through Mr. J, saying, "Ms. T, I know you struggle, but you still have a purpose. I'm not done with you yet. Trust me."
See, I told you I was going to be blunt!
Have a great day!

Programs
Last night was Firecracker's last Christmas Program he has to perform in this year. Praise the Lord! He's done! He has done 4 in 4 days. By last night Firecracker was sick of them. On the drive to last night's performance he said, "Mommy, do I have to do the program? Because, I don't want to." Poor kid!
Don't get me wrong, I've loved watching my little man in all of these programs. He's so adorable, who wouldn't love it? But Firecracker is burnt out. He's over it. But that's ok, because now he doesn't have another one for another year. That should give him plenty of time to recuperate. ;)
Merry Christmas!

Oh, Oh, We're Half Way There!
Ok, we have been potty training Sweet pea now for a little over a week. She is doing soooo well! I'd actually say she's more than half way there, but I couldn't resist using Bon Jovi's lyrics ;). I'd say she's probably about 95% of the way there.
Oh I can't wait for the day I can walk by the diaper isle in the grocery store and raise my hands and say, "Praise Jesus, I don't need anything down that isle!" Seriously, do you know how expensive diapers are? They're not the cheapest things even when using coupons. So yes, I'm excited about this. Merry Christmas to me!!
Merry Christmas,

Hustle and Bustle
Let me start this post off by saying, "Merry Christmas!"
Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year. I just love it. I have many great memories of Christmases through the years. Plus I love all the joy that seems to emanate from people this time of year.
This year though, I'm having a much more difficult time. Christmas doesn't seem like it's only 9 days away. It feels more like it should be a month or so away. With Firecracker being in school this year, we are facing a whole different set of obligations that we have ever had.
We have Christmas parties, Christmas programs, and other things all piled on top of all the regular hustle and bustle of the season. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by it all. And Sweet pea isn't in school yet! Oi vay!
I'm digging out my favorite Christmas cd today and I'm gonna pretend like nothing is stressing me out and take a deep breath and enjoy the season.
Have a relaxing day!

Good Manners or Confusion?
When we went to the Hub's Dad's house for Thanksgiving my FIL's girlfriend was there. Her name is Diane. Sweet pea to her right away. She wanted to play with Diane and sit with her. (now mind you Sweet pea doesn't usually take to people like that. Sure she'll be sweet, but if the Hub's or I are in the room she will want us and no one else, with the exception of my Mom. So this is a very rare occurrence.)
Throughout the week, Sweet pea followed Diane around the house. Talking to her in that special Sweet pea language that few understand. Sweet pea was having such great manners.... or so we thought. Whenever she wanted Diane she would say, "excuse me __________" (fill in the blank with whatever she wanted.) It was making me feel proud that Sweet pea was having such good manners.
Then about Thursday, Diane had stepped out for a little bit. Sweet pea was running through the house saying, "EXCUSE ME!" Then asking everyone, "where'd excuse me go?" At that we all had a good chuckle. So Sweet pea wasn't having exceptionally good manners, she thought Diane's name was Sweet pea! Hahaha! My kids constantly amaze me (and 98% of the time make me chuckle).
Have a great day!

Villains
Have you ever noticed that most classic Disney movies have horrible, scary villains. I mean think about it. Aladdin= Jafar, Snow White= Scary Queen, Sleeping Beauty= Malificent (evil witch/ dragon), Little Mermaid= Ursula etc. etc. Not really suitable for kids. At least not ones that get scared.
Also, it is obvious that within the last few years Disney has been making movies to try and rectify the villainy. Now let's think about more recent movies. Cars= no villain, Planes= no villain, Nemo= no villain etc. Sure 2 out of 3 of these movies have characters that you love to hate, but they aren't scary.
Thank you, Disney, for making newer movies that my kids can watch without waking me up in the middle of the night with horribly bad dreams!
Have a great day!
Ms. T
P.S. there is a special place in my heart for those older movies that I grew up on. LOVE me the original Disney movies, but they're a little too much for my kiddos.

Happy Birthday, Hubby!!!
*Ehemena* years ago today my wonderful Hubs was born!! He's such a gift from God. And I just have to brag on him and how much I love him for a few minutes. I know he'll be all like, "I don't know who that guy is you're talking about" and "I wish you wouldn't say that kind of stuff about me, because I don't want you to get your expectations too high". (I know you don't know him, but this is the kind of stuff he says when I praise him. He always tells me, "if you have low expectations then you won't get disappointed").
All this aside, the Hubs is such a wonderful Husband, Father, Son-in-law and Brother. He would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He makes me fall in love with him all over again.
Happy Birthday to the best Husband ever!
Love,
Ms. T

Bounce House
I mentioned the other day that while we were at my Father in law's house the kids were trapped inside. It was exceptionally cold and rainy outside most of the week. I'm talking down into the teens! For this southern girl that's way too cold!
We were forced to be inventive when it came to helping the munchkins get their energy out. Thankfully there is a consignment shop a few miles away from my FIL's house, and inside they have a back area that is a play center for the kids. In that area there are bounce houses. Oh praise the good Lord for bounce houses!! They saved us this trip. We did a few other things too, like go to Chuck E. Cheese (which Firecracker kept referring to as Chuck Cheezits). But it was the bounce house that we used the most.
Have a great day!

Car Trip with 2 Kids
I mentioned yesterday that we went on vacation to visit the Hub's Dad. Well, what I didn't tell you is it is a 12 hours car ride. Yes, 12 looooooooonnnng hours in a car. I am a terrible car rider. Once you get past the 5 or 6 hour mark I start getting antsy and just want it to be over with. So I feel bad for my munchkins, because I too hate driving such a long way. It's totally worth it to see my FIL though. He's awesome.
Anywho, the kids really were great travelers. They were awesome on the way up. The Hubs and I had bought new coloring books for them as a surprise, we brought the portable dvd player and I brought my kindle. Not to mention all the little toys that constantly roll around in our van. The stuff did distract them quite a bit and they were awesome. I was proud of them!
It was the trip home that was the night mare. They weren't terrible, but they had been cooped up all week inside because of bad weather so they were already wound up tight. Then add a 12 hour car trip on top of that and what have you got?! Fighting, and misery.
On top of all that wonderfulness (read with sarcasm), Sweet pea leaked through her diaper not just once, but twice on the way home! The second time she did it she started screaming and crying. Of course it was in the middle of nowhere. Literally nothing but road and cow pastures. And it was pitch black outside. I tell you what my friends, you've never lived til you've changed a diaper in the middle of a 4 lane highway (yes, we had to pull into the middle because we couldn't pull off on the side), in complete darkness.
Let's just say, it is extremely good to be home!! =)
Have a great day!

Forgetful Much?
We went to visit the Hub's Dad's house for the week. I was (as usual) in charge of all the packing. For some reason I was much more scatter brained and stressed out than usual when packing us up. Once we got to Dad's we realized that I forgot the Hub's deodorant, the kid's gloves and hats (necessary since the weather was in the teens and got as high as 45!), and a few other small items.
I was frustrated with myself, but it wasn't that big a deal. We went to the store and bought the items we needed and the week went pretty well. We enjoyed our time, we do not get to spend nearly enough time with my FIL.
So we just got home on Saturday from our trip to visit the Hub's Dad. On our way home the Hub's Dad texts us and says, "you forgot one half of your baby monitor". (Yes, I still use a monitor. Especially when we are going to be sleeping on the opposite end of the house from the kids, which is the case at the Hub's Dad's house.)
Crimeney! I can't believe I forgot that! Oh well, it wasn't worth it to turn around to go back and get it. So on we went on our merry little way. We got into our driveway and once again received a text from my Father In Law. This time he says, "hey, thanks for all the nice clothes!" Yeah.... We forgot to get all of the Hubs and my hanging clothes...... UGH! Frustrating!!!!!!
Oh well, it's just stuff right? It's not like I forgot one of my kids...... I don't think.... Hahaha!
Have a great day,
Ms. T

Popcorn!
My little Firecracker loves his popcorn. He gets so excited when you tell him he can have some. He will jump up and down, then run into the kitchen, fling open the pantry door and grab the box of popcorn. Mind you Firecracker does all of this while yelling, "POPCORN, YAY, POPCORN!"
He knows how to help put it in the microwave. Firecracker is so smart, but he's not quite tall enough to do it all by himself yet. After it's in the microwave, he goes around the house telling any one that will listen that he's about to have popcorn, just in case you didn't hear him yelling about it 45 seconds earlier. It's all quite the production.
You may be wondering, "if he's that excited about it before he gets it what does he do when he actually gets it?" Good question! Firecracker actually gets very still and quiet, only because he's intently eating his popcorn.
I get a kick out of Firecracker's immense love for popcorn. Sometimes I offer it to him just to see the fireworks that accompany it. =)
Hope your day is as good as popcorn! =)

You know how you tell your children the same thing over and over and over again until you feel like you might as well make a recording of yourself, because you say it so much? Well, my friends, I must say that it does eventually pay off!
The Hubs took Firecracker to the store with him the other day. Firecracker knows that 90% of the stores we go to have bakeries that offer free cookies to children. Trust me, he knows which one we're going into and whether or not he'll get the sweet treat while we're in there. Anyway, the store Hubs and Firecracker went into had one of those bakeries that hands out a free cookie to the kiddies.
Of course they went to the bakery and the Firecracker made his Mamma (and Daddy) proud! The cookie lady came over and Firecracker said, "please, cookie". She was stunned (apparently kids don't usually ask nicely especially unprompted) as was the Hubs. The cookie lady handed him the cookie and then Firecracker said, "thank". Oh My Lanta! Could it be that all the repetition is paying off? Could it be that Firecracker is actually absorbing some of those manners that we're trying so desperately todrill into teach him?
The end of the story is that the cookie lady was so impressed with Firecracker's manners that she gave him 2 cookies! Trust me he was thrilled with this. And Firecracker made his Mamma and Daddy so super proud. Gotta love the little glimmers of hope that shine through =).
Hope you have a great day!

Awkward Hugger
I grew up in a very small church. Everybody knew everybody, and the most common way to greet each other was a warm welcome and a big hug. Therefore, I always hugged everyone. Even those that didn't go to my church. It was just how I greeted people.
Now days, things are very different for me. I have literally distanced myself from others. If I happen to see someone that used to go to church with me in that small church, I still hug them. It's still considered acceptable.
However, Now that I'm older I realize that not every one hugs to greet each other. I've turned into an awkward hugger. Sometimes there are instances where when I'm greeting some one I wonder if I should hug them. But while I'm debating about whether or not to go in for a hug the appropriate time period for greeting someone with a hug goes by. So then if I decide I should hug them it's all awkward.....
So if I go to hug you and it seems awkward, know you're not alone.
Have a great day!

Shoes
The other day I got new, beautiful shoes. I wore them for the first time on Sunday. As we were driving to church, I took a picture of my new shoes and texted it to Ms. L, and Ms. Pickles. Firecracker then asked me, "Mommy, why are you taking pictures of your shoes?"
I told Firecracker that I wanted to show Ms. L and Ms. Pickles my new shoes. At which point Sweet pea piped up and says, "Firecracker, Mommy's pretty shoes!! Show Auntie."
Even a 2 year old gets it. Shoes are kryptonite to girls ;)
Have a great day!

Date Night and a Clean House
A week or so ago my good friend, Ms. S, told me her daughters (15 and 13, amazing girls that I have known their whole lives) were trying to earn money for Christmas. I decided that because things had been so busy lately, we were going to have them come and help me deep clean the house.
The Hubs was totally cool with it. A few days before they were supposed to come I asked them if they'd like to babysit for the evening and make even more money. They were excited.
So, Saturday, I had help cleaning the house. Then about 4:00 the Hubs and I left for our date leaving the girls to tend to Sweet pea and Firecracker. It was awesome!
Sunday morning, Firecracker informed me that he liked having the girls babysit. He said they were fun! =) It's always good to know your kids like their baby sitters.
Have a great day!

Operation Christmas Child
It's that time of year again, time to start filling shoe boxes to send overseas to needy children. You maybe thinking, "Ms. T, there are still several days til Christmas. Why do we need to start now?" Because, my friends, the teams need time to organize the boxes, count them, put them in bigger boxes and then ship them.
We do this every year, and this year I am excited because Firecracker is old enough to participate. He will help me pick things out, fill the boxes and we'll talk about how we are being Jesus to some one we've never met. I'm psyched. He doesn't know it yet, but he'll love it too.
This is one of the highlights of our year. The Hubs and I love to be a blessing to a little one that might not get a Christmas otherwise. True, it's not like they get a huge Christmas present, but they get something. And from the videos I've seen they are as excited as they could possibly be.
Here is a video to show what I mean:
Heart breaking isn't it? It makes me want to bring all these children into my home and show them love. Since I can't do that I fill as many shoe boxes as possible.
Hope you all have a great day!

Dying From Embarrassment. . . Or Laughter
My friend, Ms. L, has a humorous story for us about her son, The Boy. I just love this family!!! Take it away, Ms. L!
So, if there is one thing you must know about me as a momma, it is that I strive to have well behaved kids. We work on manners, politeness, obedience, emotion/anger control, etc. on a regular basis. My children think that the "S" word is the word stupid. The "F" word is the word fat. We do not talk about certain things in public. There are some things we don't even talk about in the privacy of our own home, unless our kids are asking a sincere question about them.
After 7 years of working to ensure that my children don't embarrass me, I almost fell out of my chair when The Boy came home from school on Monday.
As usual, I look through The Boy's bookbag as soon as we get home from school. I check our agenda, his teacher's comments on his behavior, our homework list, and any returned papers from school. I love looking at my son's work. Sometimes he just amazes me with the thought processes and creativity he puts into his school work.
He is known as the funny kid in class, a title that we are very proud of. However, this time, I am certain he wasn't trying to be funny. He doesn't even know what these words mean, but somehow they ended up on the paper. The assignment was to write sentences using words the teacher gave them. She gave five words, and three of them were Today, Nut, and Black.
Here are The Boy's sentences:
1) Today is Mrs. Oates' Bra Day.
Translated to read "Today is Mrs. Oates' Birthday."
I mean, if my translation is wrong, I am glad that it was her Bra Day and not her Non-Bra Day.
2) The nuts is blue.
Why, oh why, son, must you have made the nuts blue? Couldn't they have been any other color? We don't even refer to body parts using slang terms in our house, so I know that he is thinking of literal nuts, but why? Why must they be blue?
3) This color is piss black.
Translated by Mrs. Oates to read "This color is pitch black."
Oh my goodness? We don't even use this word. He doesn't even know that this word exists, much less what it means. Oi-vey!
So, three of our five sentences were sentences that made my face flush with embarrassment. I now have to try to redeem my parenting qualities to our teacher. I can't even imagine how she managed to read those sentences without falling out in the floor. I think it's incredibly funny, but only because I know how innocent it is. She may be of a different opinion.
This is one paper that will be saved to torment him with when he is much much older and can understand the humor.
Have a great day!

Heat Wave
I have "heat waves" (AKA hot flashes). Especially at night. In order for me to get any sleep I have 2 large stand fans and the over head fan all on high every night. And I still can't have the covers on. In contrast, the poor Hubs sleeps under an electric blanket and a quilt in order to stay warm enough for him to sleep.
I hope this mess gets better soon. The poor Hubs nearly freezes to death once he gets out from under the covers. Good grief!
Have a great day!

Crust On The Side, Please
Firecracker is like many children. When I make him a peanut butter sandwich he asks me to cut the crust off. Whatever, that's fine with me. However, I always put the crust on the side of the plate. And guess what? 90% of the time Firecracker will eat those too..... He's a nut! He doesn't want the crust on the bread, but he'll eat it if it's on the side. Whatever, he's growing, and healthy and that's all this Mama is gonna ask for.
Have a great day!

Who Can You Trust?
Lately, there have been several occurrences in people's lives that we know that have the Hubs and I constantly asking, "who can we trust?" We consider our children to be our special gifts from God and we want to protect them from everything harmful.
Honestly, I knew this world was a screwed up place, but nothing has truly made me frightened of this as much as parenting has. In the last 2 months or so, the Hubs and I have had 2 different people tell us about sexual abuse that happened to them as a child. These were repeated offenses where the adult involved was considered a trusted figure.
When I hear something like that my mind goes through multiple questions:
How?! How can an adult look at a little child and do something like that?!
Why?!
Those questions are important, but then these, more pertinent questions come to mind:
How do I know who I can trust my babies with?
How can I keep this kind of thing from happening to my child?
The Hubs and I talk to Firecracker CONSTANTLY about inappropriate touching from others and where it is or is not ok to touch people or be touched. We also explain that if ANYONE touches him he needs to tell us right away. We also tell Firecracker that if he tells us he will not ever get in trouble. Only the person that was naughty will get in trouble.
Despite these talks I still feel that my children are so susceptible. I pray over them daily that God will protect them. However, I hear things like these from people I KNOW and I want to shut myself, the Hubs and my kids up in the house and lock all the doors and never let anyone else near them.
Sorry to get all serious on you today, this was on my mind and you guys are such great listeners ;).
Have a great day!

Politician Slapper
Last night, my father, Papa, mentioned that because all politicians are such filthy liars there should be an elected position entitled, "politician slapper". The person elected into this position would be responsible for slapping the fool out of lying politicians.
Personally I think this is a great idea! And I'm writing my Daddy on the ballot for this position in the next election! =)

Minivan Mama
Once upon a time, B.K. (before kids), I swore I would never drive a minivan. It was too cliche and they were too ugly blah, blah, blah.
You wanna guess what I drive now? Yep, a minivan! And you know what? I love it. Today, I'm driving the Hub's car, because the van is in the shop (a few little repairs). I miss my van! The Hub's car is nice, but it doesn't have doors that open at the touch of a button. It doesn't sit up tall so I don't have to bend way down to buckle Sweet pea into her car seat. Etc. At this point I think I'm spoiled with my van ;).
Just one more way my opinions have changed since I've had kids of my own.
Have a great day!

The Least Observant Person Ever Strikes Again!
Sunday the Hubs, the kids and I were driving to church. And suddenly the Hubs goes, "ohhh, ohh man! Oh my goodness!" (I was reading). I looked up and said, "what?!" (Now, I don't know if you remember, but I am the least observant person ever. )
The Hubs says, "there was a bad accident. Didn't you see it?!" I'm looking at a few cars in front of us at the light we were sitting at expecting to see a fender bender or something. So I'm like, "uh, no, there isn't anything wrong with those cars".
The Hubs looks at me like I have 2 heads. He says, "no, up there (and points to a spot about a foot ball field's distance away from us)." At this point we start moving again, and sure enough we came up to a 3 car accident. And one of the cars was flipped onto it's side!
How in the world can I miss this stuff? Really......
Have a great day!

Entertaining Strangers
The other day, Sweet pea and I were in Walmart. She did not want to ride in the cart (she thinks she is big stuff if she can walk instead of riding in the cart). So here we are walking along and Sweet pea missed a step. She didn't exactly fall down, because I was holding her hand. Instead she did this awkward lean-forward-one leg on the ground- one leg in the air position.
Once Sweet pea had regained control of herself, she dropped down to all fours and started panting like a puppy. I told her she was not a doggie and to get up off of the floor. As she obeyed, she kept her hands on the floor and straightened her legs. Then she lifted one leg in the air in a crazy, look what I can do, kind of pose (honestly, it's a pose Firecracker does all the time when he's trying to dance. What can I say, he is as bad at dancing as his Mama). Finally, she stood all the way up.
Once I had her hand again and turned around to keep walking I noticed an old lady watching us. She grinned widely and then said, "does the baby take yoga lessons, or something?" I just laughed and told her that Sweet pea learns from her crazy, big brother.
As I walked away I realized that my kids do not just entertain me. They entertain pretty much any one that watches their antics for more than 2 minutes at a time! They are such unique little people. I love the way their little minds work. They constantly are coming up with different stuff that amazes and amuses me. I hope they never change.
Have a great day!

I love the way their little minds work. They constantly are coming up with different stuff that amazes and amuses me. I hope they never change.
Have a great day!

Learning to Say No
I have always been one that has a hard time turning people down. Especially when it comes to people I know and love. I want to help them with whatever it is they need help with. It also goes along with my personality, because I'm a "fixer".
Recently, I have had to give up something that I have done for a long time. I LOVED doing it, but I needed to step back just a little, and that couldn't be accomplished so I had to give it up completely. I have agonized over this, because I truly loved it. I also love those that are involved in it. However, all good things must come to an end, and this was the end.
Since having to give this up, my depression has lessened. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but the depression has continued to be at a more manageable level. I cannot tell you how shocked I was. How could an activity/ engagement/ responsibility that I truly loved cause my depression to deepen? Wouldn't it actually make it better, not worse?
What I now realize is that the activity itself wasn't the problem. The problem was that I was over extending myself. And by over extending myself I was causing more stress in other areas of my life, completely unconsciously.
My goal now is to be extremely careful in what responsibilities and activities I take on. My knee jerk reaction in the past was always, "sure, no problem, I can handle it." And I really believed I could. I mean I lived a very high energy, go-go-go life for a very long time. My life now is comparatively calm (although I have 2 short people that demand much time and energy ;), so I never thought adding a few extra things here and there would be a problem.
God is teaching me that I need to prioritize. I need to be extremely careful in what things I chose to participate in, so that I do not cause myself to be stretched too thin, and cause my family to suffer. It's an interesting lesson for sure. One that is requiring much introspection and contemplation.
Have a great day!

Running Late
On Tuesdays, I work at Firecracker's school. I am not usually there very long time, just from around 8 til noon (school doesn't start til 8:30, but the principal likes teachers, and other staff to be there by 8). On these days I have to leave the house by 7:30.
Yesterday, I woke up and glanced at the clock. The clock said 7:43. I thought, "that can't be right. I have 3 different alarms set on my phone for different purposes, all of which go off before 7:43." I rolled over and checked my phone and guess what? It was 7:43! Apparently, somehow I accidentally turned my phone on to silent the night before.
I jumped out of bed, ran down to Firecracker's room, woke him up and told him what he needed to do to get ready. I ran into the kitchen, threw some frozen waffles into the toaster oven for the kids, then ran into my room to get dressed.
At 8:00 on the nose, we were pulling out of the drive way. We pulled into the school's parking lot at 8:20. Sure I was 20 minutes late, but we managed to be there before school actually started.
It was a chaotic morning to say the least, but at least I was well rested! Hahaha!
Have a great day!

Don't Be Jealous, Ladies
I believe I have shared with you before that my evil arch nemesis abides in my house with me. It's name you ask? Laundry! It NEVER goes away!
Ok, so maybe "evil arch nemesis" is going a slight, teeny weeny bit overboard. It's not too bad if I keep on top of it. However, when you hit a slump or have a breakdown, the laundry doesn't stop just because you did. It just keeps growing.
I married a gracious, gracious man. The Hubs knows that I struggle with this. He also knows that I make a valiant effort most of the time to keep on top of it. The Hubs tends to stay away from laundry, because he doesn't care for it either, and our strategies when it comes to laundry are extremely different. So working side by side doesn't go well with that chore. He does tell me if I ever need him to do it just to let him know and he will take it over.
Well, last weekend I pulled out the white flag and raised it high. I was so overwhelmed by the ridiculous amount of laundry I had allowed to pile up simply by pretending it wasn't there. I begged the Hubs to help me do some of it and get it down to a manageable amount.
That wonderful, sweet, kind, beautiful man did A LOT of laundry for me! No, I will not give you a specific number, because I'm ashamed at how much there was! But let's just say it was more than it should have been!
Oh, Hubs, I love you so much!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for digging me out of the laundry hole!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day!

Don't Blame the Banana
Wednesday, I sent a banana in Firecracker's school lunch. When he got home I opened his lunch box and noticed the banana was missing. I was glad he'd eaten at least some of it. We then had this conversation:
Me: Firecracker, how much of your banana did you eat? Some of it or all of it?
Firecracker: I ate it all. Please, Mommy, don't send me a banana in my lunch any more.
Me: Didn't you like it?
Firecracker: I did, but I had to sit in time out for hitting Tank with the banana peel. (fyi, Tank is Firecracker's cousin, and he also happens to be a classmate.)
Ugh! This child needs to learn that it's not his food's fault if he gets in trouble! Hahaha!
Have a great weekend!

Tiny Bit
Sweet pea is a drink stealer. If you leave your drink unattended do not be surprised when you come back to get it if it is gone. And when you ask her, "Sweet pea, did you drink my drink?" She will reply, "yes, a tiny bit."
It doesn't matter if Sweet pea drank 2/3 of the cup. She will still tell you she only drank a "tiny bit". I tell you what. Living with these two little rascals make life anything but dull!
Have a great day!

Conversation About Pudding Cups
Conversation between the Hubs and I the other day:
Hubs: I'm not complaining, but what made you decide to buy vanilla pudding cups?
Me: Nothing really, they were on sale so I bought one each of the 3 different kinds. Why?
H: No reason really. It's just the vanilla is plain. It just needs a little something. You know like a Kit Kat bar.....
And this ladies and gentleman, is reason 2,984,757,583,992 I love him =).

Garbage Pickers
My kids are terrible about picking through the garbage. Whenever they feel the urge they will go and stare into the garbage can (most of the time they just look, they have been in trouble too many times for taking things out of the garbage, GROSS!). God forbid I threw away something that they think still has some value!
I hear things like, "Mommy, why did you throw away that Mcdonald's toy?" I have to respond with, "because, Firecracker, it didn't work right, half the pieces were missing, and you hadn't played with it in a long time."
I have resorted to smuggling things out. I hide things in empty opaque containers, or shove them down to the bottom and cover them with other stuff. Goodness! I shouldn't have to feel like a drug smuggler when it comes to getting rid of broken toys!
Have a great day!

Why Bother?
I'm going to start this off with saying, if you don't own a dishwasher, I'm sorry and you have my condolences.
That said, why on earth do dish manufacturers bother making items that cannot be put in the dishwasher? For real. I usually don't remember to look at if it can/ or is supposed to be put in the dishwasher, because everything can go in the dishwasher right? I throw it all in. If it gets messed up I'll look and go, "oh whoops!" and of course that makes me wonder all over again why they make stuff like that. It's ridiculous.
As you can probably tell, things that aren't dishwasher safe don't tend to survive long in our house.... Oh well!
Have a great day!

Glass Shelves
Dear person that invented the glass shelves in refrigerators instead of wire shelving,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! If I weren't married I'd hunt you down and kiss your face!
Your's Truly,
Ms. T
See, you don't realize what a great invention these glass shelves are until one night you open the refrigerator and slide some stuff around to make something else fit and you see a styrofoam container (that you don't remember where it came from, or what was in it) has sprung a nasty leak and it's gotta puddle of grossness surrounding it. And, instead of having to clean the ENTIRE fridge you only have to wipe up one shelf. Oh how wonderful!!
Have a great day!

Growing
Firecracker is getting ready to hit a growth spurt. I can feel it in my bones, and in my grocery budget. Lately, he's been eating anything that gets in his path!
The other day he ate: a cereal bar, a 1/4 of a peanut butter sandwich, a banana, and a granola bar. All in one sitting! And then the Hubs walked in with ice cream, and Firecracker ate some of that too! (Ok, so the ice cream thing is pretty much a no brainer, but still)
Clearance racks, here I come. I'm gonna have to be ready for his pants to be too short ;)
Have a great day!

Least Observant Person Ever
For quite some time I have been given the nick name of "the least observant person ever". I am not offended by this nick name. Probably because it's true, and this "quality" has given us lots and lots of laughs.
I will give you a quick example of my lack of observational skills:
Firecracker, Sweet pea and I had gone on a trip to visit my parents. (When they still lived in a different state from us). We got home and found the Hubs and my BIL, Mr. Big Guy, hanging out in the living room. The kids and I came in and were getting settled while the Hubs and Mr. Big Guy helped bring in all the luggage. The kids and I had been home for a few hours, and I'd been walking all around the house putting things away.
Mr. Big Guy looked at the Hubs and said, "Huh, I guess you're right, she isn't very observant is she?" Of course this made me ask what I was supposed to have noticed. It turns out they had replaced the faucet in the kitchen while I was gone. It was completely different. And I had gone in and out of the kitchen at least 6 times and hadn't noticed it at all.
I do stuff like this all the time. It makes us laugh. Which is good, because otherwise it might make me cry ;).
Have a great day!

Disney Pictures
At the beginning of September our little family went to Disney.
If you remember I had lost my camera there =(. However, the wonderful people at Disney found it and sent it to me. =) And then I promised I would post some pictures from our trip. Well, now I shall actually make good on that ;).
We had such a good time. And coincidentally the last picture is the last one I snapped before I lost the camera.
Have a great day!

Voice Mail
Ok, so I never check my voice mail. And by never, I mean maybe, MAYBE once a month. I just don't care for it. Usually instead of listening to the voice mail I just call the person back. I'd rather talk to them than listen to a recording. Thanks anyway.
Recently, a good friend of mine learned this lesson the hard way. I had called my friend, M, and left her a voice mail about getting together to hang out (yes, I do leave voice mail, because I know not everyone is odd like me.). A few weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything from M. I thought that was strange, because she is usually the type to get back to people quickly.
I finally decided to call her and see what was going on. During the course of our conversation I found out M had called me and left me a voice mail not long after I had called her. WHOOPS! I didn't see her missed call, and didn't check my voice mail, so I had no idea she had called!
Let this be a lesson to all of you, if you try to call me and don't reach me, DON'T leave a voice mail. Send me a text instead.
Have a great day!

Big Girl
Tuesday the Hubs and I took down Sweet pea's crib and put up her new big girl, toddler bed. She was sooo excited to have a "big girl" bed!
I love watching my kids hit new mile stones. It's awesome. However, it does make me a little nostalgic. My babies are growing up way too fast.
Have a great day!
Ms. T
P.s. Sweet pea only got out of her bed once. =)

Frozen Tundra or Sauna?
When I was preggers with Sweet pea I was constantly hot. This was especially true at night. It got to the point where I'd sleep with the over head fan on and a regular sized, stand fan pointed at me. It was the only way I could get cool enough to sleep. I assumed that after I had Sweet pea I would go back to "normal".
It is 2 years later and I still have to have both of my fans on at night. I guess I'll just always be this way. Eh, it's no biggie, just crank up the fans. However, I do feel bad for the Hubs. Before I got preggers I was always the cold one. He would sleep comfortably with only the sheet, whereas I would be huddled under the quilt with another blanket thrown on top. Now, however, the tables have turned. I need it to be so cool in order to sleep that it actually makes him too cold.
He now sleeps under our quilt and at least 1 other blanket. Some nights it's 2 blankets. My poor husband! The things he puts up with because he loves me!
Have a great day!

Middle of the Night Math
The Hubs and I have a projection clock in our room. It's great for when you wake up in the middle of the night, and want to know how much longer you have to sleep. Yeah, it's great, except for when it mysteriously stops telling the time right. All the sudden you realize that it's 3 hours behind. And the weird part? It STAYS 3 hours behind. It doesn't gain any time or lose any time. It's just odd.
So in this instance, because "projection clock" doesn't usually end up on the list of items to buy at the store, and as I constantly tell the Hubs, "if it's not on the list it doesn't get purchased!", We've been living with a clock that is 3 hours behind. Therefore, in the middle of the night when I roll over and look at the clock I have to add 3 to get the real time.
While this doesn't sound complicated, to a very drowsy, muddled mind it can be hard. Note to self, buy a new clock!!!
Have a great day!

Mess-a-phobe
Firecracker is a messaphobe. He HATES to be messy. Last night the Hubs was outside mowing the lawn and he got grass all over the patio. Firecracker was watching from inside and he started yelling, "no, Daddy! You're making a BIG mess! Daddy! Stop!" It cracked me up!
After the Hubs was done mowing, and cleaning everything up, we had to call Firecracker back to look at the patio again and see that Daddy cleaned up the "mess" he made. Hahahaha! Gotta love that little man. He sure keeps us on our toes!
Have a great weekend!

Puddles
At what point in our lives do we stop enjoying puddles? My kids love puddles, especially Sweet pea. I try to steer her away from them as much as possible, but she is enthralled.
It makes me wonder, when do we become so grown up that we stop enjoying puddles? My guess is that it is about the same time we start becoming a grown up. So for now, I'll let my kids enjoy the puddles (unless they're in church clothes), because I want them to stay little forever! =)
Have a great day!

Sunglasses
Firecracker has a hard time getting up in the morning. When he does get up, he despises the light. He complains that it's "hot in his eyes". Our solution? Sunglasses. Every morning after he wakes up, and before I turn on the light, he grabs his sunglasses and puts them on. And then he's completely happy to go about his morning doing all that needs to be done to get to school on time. I love my quirky little man ;). I wish all issues in life were fixed as easily!
Have a great day!
