Daniel Tiger Wants to Get My Kids Killed By a Serial Killer

Daniel Tiger is a cartoon version of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.  It's pretty cute.  Firecracker and Sweet pea love it.  Sweet pea is enthralled with Daniel Tiger.  Most of the time these shows have good lessons for the kids. However, the other night we were watching a Daniel Tiger and it was teaching my kids how to get targeted by a serial killer.  I can tell you don't believe me so I'll explain.

You see Daniel and his friend were having a sleep over.  Something scared them and they hollered for their parents to come.  The parents came in the room and encouraged the kids to look around and find what scared them.  Obviously these people have never watched a horror movie!  Don't they realize that the ones that go "looking to find out what the noise was"  are some of the first that get killed?!

Goodness!  Apparently I need to start having my kids view truly educational shows like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th etc.  Obviously these shows are much more realistic than Daniel Tiger. (Note, please read this last paragraph with extreme sarcasm)

Have a great day!

The Window

The Hubs and I have a "code" for when it's time to leave somewhere when we have the kids with us.  Our "code" is "the window is closed".  In other words, we have a window of opportunity to hang out in public with people while we have the kids with us.

The length this "window" is open depends on various different factors.  For instance if we have gone out to eat and the restaurant is kid friendly, the kids have had decent naps and we have some little toys with us to help distract the kids the window will stay open much longer than if the kids haven't slept well, it takes 45 mins. to get seated at the restaurant, we have nothing to distract them etc.

Once the window is closed, it's closed.  Gone, nothing you can do will re open it until the children have been removed to a different situation.  It's just the way it is.  Thankfully the older the kids get the longer our window will stay open.

Have a great day!

Brain Age

Lately I've been struggling with forgetfulness  it's not just that though, it's also I struggle with brain sluggishness.  Does that make sense?  Anyway, the last time I went to my Psychiatrist I explained this to him and he says that's pretty normal.  Sometimes medications can cause those issues.  He suggested that I play some online "brain games".  They help assess you're issues and can help your mind strengthen in the areas you're struggling with.

I have started playing these games.  My first time around the games told me I had a brain age of 69.  Over double my actual age.... I'm working on it, but hey, at least now I understand why my brain seems to slow down on me.

Have a great day!

Failure

In case you haven't been reading faithfully, (shame on you!! =) I have been attempting to do a 40 day sweets/ sugar fast  .  I made it through 37 days.  On that last day I tried to keep my resolve, but it melted faster than butter on toast.

I know I didn't make it through the full 40 days, but I'm kinda impressed with myself for making it through 37 days.  I now know my limitations.  I can make it 37 days, but not 38 ;).

Have a great day!

Picnic Adventure

When I make a promise to my kiddos I try my absolute hardest to keep it.  If for some reason I can't keep it, I apologize to them and ask their forgiveness.  That being said, have you ever made a promise to your kids that you wished you had never promised?

A few weeks ago Firecracker had a day off from school.  In the afternoon we went to the park and I promised the kids we could have a picnic.  By the time we were done with our adventure walk and playing on the playground the sun was setting.

We set out for home explaining that we couldn't eat at the park in the dark.  I told the kids that if the sun was still up when we got home we could have a picnic in the back yard, or if the sun was down we could have a picnic inside on the living room floor.  (Attempting to keep my promise as best I could).

Wouldn't ya know that when we got home the sun was still peeking above the horizon.  So I hurried inside and threw some food together, put a blanket on the grass outside and we had our "picnic".  At least the kids and I did.  The Hubs decided he'd like to eat inside where the lights were on.

By the time I was done with my food (5 min.s later, because the sun was going down FAST), the sun was gone.  Firecracker, Sweet pea and I were sitting in the back yard with nothing but the lights from the dining room window keeping us from being totally in the dark.

I was attempting to get Firecracker and Sweet pea to hurry their eating along, when Firecracker looked up and said, "oh look, Mommy! Birdies!"  I looked and there were bats!  I scooped up the stuff and said, "Ok, kids our picnic was fun, but it's time to go inside now."

And with that our "picnic adventure" came to a close.  I really need to think about my promises before I make them!

Have a great day!

Day 34

A couple of weeks ago, I told you all about the sweets fast/ sugar fast that I'm doing.  I've done pretty well with it.  I'm on day 34 today. I will admit that I cheated a little bit a few days ago.  We were at a friend's house and they made desert for us.  I couldn't be rude ;).  In my defense I only ate about one tablespoon.

Anyway, They say that the longer you go without sweets the easier it is....  Yeah, they're still a bunch of lying liars from liarsville.  I still crave sweets. Constantly!  Only 6 more days to go.  To be honest I really wanted to cave in last night, but there is this part of me that's like, "you made it this far. Don't screw it up now, idiot!"  And that little voice is the only thing that kept me from diving head long into a tub of M&M's.

Have a great day!

Cynic

Before the Hubs and I started dating I thought the world was full of mostly good people.  I mean I know everyone is a sinner, because the Bible says in Romans 3:23, "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God".  However, I was still naive enough to believe that no one was out there purposely trying to do me harm.

However, the Hub's has spent the better part of 7 years convincing me that people (aside from a very select few) are only out for themselves.  They don't care one lick about you or what is best for you.

Now when I see a situation I look at it from a cynical perspective.  I attempt to anticipate what can/ will go wrong. Fortunately (or should I say unfortunately?) this view point has kept me from making some big mistakes. It's sad that this is the way we have to view the world.  And even worse, it's sad that I'll have to teach my children this line of thought also.

Have a great day!
