A few weeks ago we were at my nephew's birth day party. It was at a local kiddie arcade. The arcade has been there since I was a kid. We have been there lots of times. While we were there a random guy came up and started trying to talk to us. The guy had no children with him. No one knew who he was. I am not one to judge. I know everyone has worth. However, I do not allow just anyone around my kids.
After watching this guy for awhile, I went to my kids and told them not to talk to that man. If he came up and tried to talk to them I told them to find either Mommy or Daddy immediately.
You can never be too careful when it comes to your kid's safety. And while that guy didn't try to talk to my kids, he hung around until it was time for us to go. The whole thing weirded me out.
Have a great day!

Little Boy Brain
You ever ask your kid something along these lines, "What made you do that?!" or "Why would you think that was ok?"
We had an incident with Firecracker where we actually got an answer to these questions. Oh the light that was shed on the situation!
Last week, Firecracker got in trouble at school for throwing a pencil at a little boy across the room. After A LOT of patience and talking I finally got him to admit the reasoning.
Apparently, the other little boy had lent Firecracker a pencil. Firecracker was attempting to give the pencil back, but the weren't supposed to get out of their seats. So really, when you think about it, it was pretty self explanatory. Firecracker was not trying to be malicious. He was just trying to return a pencil.
Have a great day!

Proud
Most of y'all know that I volunteer at Firecracker's school 2 days a week. I work with the Senior High students. I enjoy them. They're a crazy lot, which suits me wonderfully, because I'm just a big bag of crazy waiting to surprise some unexpecting passerby that dares have a conversation with me.
Anyway, last week a few of the kids went to a competition. They competed in every thing from archery to running to photography to spelling etc. I was able to attend one day of the competition and got to watch all of them perform in some manner. It was great and I was so proud of "my kids".
Friday, we took all the Senior High students that didn't go to the competition to watch the awards ceremony and cheer on their peers. I LOVED it. Every one of "my kids" placed in at least 2 of their events! I couldn't have been more proud of them. Here are some pictures I took of the goof balls after they got their awards.
Some might think the kids were just "high on excitement" from winning their awards. But do not be deceived! This is the way they are all the time and to be honest, I wouldn't have it any other way. They are a good bunch of kids and I love them all. I may joke around with them and call them "hooligans" or "nerd faces" etc. but they also know I love them, because I tell them and I tell them how proud I am of them. I don't think I could've been more proud.
When I was in high school I attended these types of conventions also, and I loved going, having fun and of course winning awards. Honestly though, I think I enjoyed watching the kids and reveling in their successes more than I enjoyed my own achievements.
Mike, Douglas, Diego, Gio, V, Mags, Ethan, if any of y'all are reading this, I LOVE YOU and I'm proud of you, you losers :).
Have a great day!

The one half way serious one I got of the group and I cut out one of the girls! Sorry, V! |
And .4 seconds after I shot the first one this happened |
As you can see it just went down hill from there |
I was attempting to take individual shots, but they kept photo bombing! |
Well, there is V, but Mags photo bombed her.... |
Or making ridiculous faces |
Or pretending they were the President |

Sneaky Boy
Firecracker has always been pretty straight forward with us. We trust him a good bit. Well, he has been sneaky enough here lately to shake my faith in him.
I had bought Hello Kitty fruit snacks for Sweet pea and Ninja Turtles fruit snacks for Firecracker. I always open up the fruit snack boxes and dump them into a hanging basket in the cabinet. I hadn't realized it, but Firecracker has gotten tall enough to reach the basket.
2 days after I bought the fruit snacks I went to put a pack in Firecracker's lunch box and only found 1 Ninja Turtle fruit snack. I thought that was odd, but I dismissed it 1. because I was tired, 2. because I thought maybe I hadn't dumped the whole box of fruit snacks into the basket.
The next day, I was in Firecracker's room. I opened one of his drawers and found 8 yes, 8 empty Ninja Turtle fruit snack wrappers!!! I was so upset!
My faith in his honesty has been shaken.
Have a great day!

Commercials
We do not have cable. We have had only Netflix for several years now. It's a billion times cheaper than cable. Anyway, the kids aren't really ever exposed to commercials. Even when we are at my parent's house and they watch t.v. the shows they watch have been pre-recorded so they just fast forward through the commercials.
The other week we were at my parent's and the Hubs and I had a show on that was "live t.v." (in other words not pre-recorded). When the commercials came on the kids looked at us expectantly. When we told them we couldn't fast forward it they were really confused. It had never dawned on me that they have never understood the whole, "have to wait for the commercials to be over in order to watch the show again" situation.
Along with this thought I came to the realization that my kids will never know the whole, "hold it until the commercial comes on, run to the bathroom and then hope you get back to the living room before the show comes back on so that I don't miss anything." situation either. What are we robbing this generation of?! ;)
Have a great day!

Lost In Translation
For Easter, Sweet pea got a little egg shaped note pad. When she asked what it was I couldn't think of the term note pad all I could think was- tablet. So I told her, "it's a tablet." Then I realized what she would think so I told her, "it's a paper tablet."
A few minutes after that conversation she said, "Mommy, is it ok if I write on my paper computer?"
Haha! Things kids these days will never understand.
Have a great day!

Classic Cartoons
Have you ever noticed that cartoons now days are crap? They are so stupid. Recently I have started turning on YouTube on the tv and turning on awesome old shows like Fraggle Rock, Flinstones and Bugs Bunny.
These toons are stinkin' awesome. Not only are my kids enjoying the old school cartoons, but I'm getting to relive a little part of my childhood. It's great on all counts :).
Have a great day!
Ms. T
P.S. if you have any ideas of other awesome, old school toons I could turn on for my kids by all means put your ideas in the comments
