The Living Nativity

Every year during the first weekend of December a nearby church hosts a living nativity.  It is absolutely amazing!  We went last night and the Firecracker was so excited!  He wouldn't stop talking about wanting to see "Babe Jee" (translated Baby Jesus ;) and giving his gift to him.  (The event itself is free, but the church asks that you bring a canned good to donate to charity.)

This church truly puts everything they have into this performace.  Once you enter the gate you have to stop by the "tax collector's office" (where you drop off your canned item).    Then you proceed to 2 different windows and watch the angels give Mary and Joseph the news of them getting to parent Jesus!  You then proceed through the gate of the city where you are met by a little band that loans you instruments while they sing you a welcome song.

After all this you get to stroll through the city and the down town market place where the vendors give the children some of their wares.  (All of these gifts can be given to baby Jesus once you reach him, or you can keep them.  They are not picky, or demanding)

You get to hear the Shepherds tell of the angels appearing to them.  And then meet the Wise Men.  Finally you get to meet Baby Jesus and give him your gifts (if you so choose).  Firecracker was all about giving Baby Jesus his gifts.

I must say this was an amazing experience!  Firecracker has talked and talked about it.  And I'm thrilled to be able to expose him to it!  I love that he is getting to see what this season is truly about.

Thank you, church members for taking your time to create such an amazing experience.  We will continue to come every year this is offered!

Have a great day!

  1. That is really awesome! I have been through "living nativities" where you moved from scene to scene portrayed by actual people, but I have never been to one that was interactive like that. Very cool! I am sooo glad Firecracker wanted to give his gifts to Jesus! That is a great way to help him understand what Christmas is all about!
