Matching Socks

I don't match socks.  I'm sorry, I despise laundry enough as it is, I'm not going to spend hours more just trying to match stupid socks.  Who cares what your socks look like?  Your shoes cover the majority of your socks anyway.

My kids have learned to deal with the non matching socks.  A few weeks ago Sweet pea came out of her room dressed for the day.  She was all excited.  She said, "Mommy, look!  My socks match!"  This cracked me up.  When I was a kid my mom always made sure we had matching socks (she is seriously a better mom than I am). Oh how times have changed.

Have a great day!

27.00 Balloons

I know I've written several posts about Disney lately, bear with me through at least one more.

When we were getting ready to leave the park, the kids saw the lady selling the big, fancy, Disney balloons and asked if they could have one.  Mind you they were really good all day (for the most part, there were a few times where we were waiting in line they got very bored and started to act up), and they hadn't asked for anything (aside from ice cream) all day.  The Hubs and I were already planning on letting them get a small souvenir so we agreed.

We walked across the little street and asked the lady how much the balloons cost.  She replied that they cost 12.00 to 15.00 a piece!  I nearly swallowed my tongue! 12.00 for a freakin' balloon?!  However, the Hubs and I had already committed to buying the kids each a balloon.  So we swallowed our astonishment and ended up paying 27.00 for 2 balloons.  RIDICULOUS.  Oh well, it will be years before we go back and get gouged again. ;)

Have a great day!

Cinderella

While at Disney World on Labor day this year, the only characters Sweet pea was interested in meeting were the princesses.  The others were okay to walk past, but stand in line to meet them? Nah!

While we were standing in line to meet Cinderella, Sweet pea was so excited.  She turned to me and said, "Mommy, Cinderella is so beautiful I can't even look at her!"  She is such a sweet girl.

Have a great day!

Monorail!

When we went to Disney World on Labor day, the kids were so excited.  While walking up to the monorail, Firecracker said, "Cool!  A train!"  I replied, "It's actually called a monorail."  Both Firecracker and Sweet pea cried, "Yay!  We get to ride a monorail!!"  It bode well for the rest of the day that they were so excited for the most mundane part of the day =).

Have a great day!

DISNEY!

When I was about 20 I started a tradition of going to Disney World every year on Labor Day.  I love Disney, always have and most likely always will.  After the Hubs and I got married we continued the tradition.... Until we had kids.  You'd think, "Kids love Disney why wouldn't you take them?"  Ummm because it's EXPENSIVE!  We took Firecracker with us the first two years, however, once he turned three we decided we'd wait a year before we went again.  The last time we went into the park was when Firecracker was four and Sweet pea was 2.  Therefore, this trip was a BIG DEAL!

We had a grand time riding the rides and experiencing all things Disney.  I don't really know if Firecracker remembered his last trip to Disney, but he will definitely remember this one!  Hopefully, we will be able to go again in a couple of years when Sweet pea will have a better chance at remembering the trip.

Here are a couple pics one from 3 years ago and one from this year.

Have a great day!

Least Observant Person Ever- Kid Version

If you have read this blog for a decent amount of time you may remember that I am the least observant person ever.  I never thought of this as being a trait that would be passed down to my children.  Unfortunately, it seems Sweet pea is already showing signs of becoming the second least observant person ever.

A few weeks ago we were going to my parent's house to swim.  I remembered that the kids had blow up pool rafts that were still in their boxes.  I figured the kids would love to have them at the pool so I blew them up (yes, I did this before we went, because we have an air compressor and I'd much rather let that sucker blow them up than me have to do it.) and the kids took them to the van for me.

When I got to the van I noticed Sweet pea had put her raft directly in front of her seat allowing herself no leg room.  I picked up the raft and proceeded to put it in the back of the van.  After about 10 minutes of driving down the road Sweet pea started freaking out.  "Mommy, I don't know where my raft is!"  Mind you she was sitting in her car seat when I took it out and put it in the back of the van.  SHE WATCHED ME DO IT!

After I explained that yes, we did have it with us she calmed down.  However, now I worry about her unobservantness (pretty sure that's not a real word anywhere but in my head).  I sincerely hope she doesn't end up being unobservant for the rest of her life.

Have a great day!

Lego Zip Line

The other day I was on Pinterest and saw this idea for a  Lego zip line.

We decided to give it a go.  The kids and I went to Lowes and picked up a clothes line pulley, came home and got to work.  Firecracker was in charge of building a base for our Lego man to ride on.  Once that was done we got busy connecting the base and tested it out.  It was a resounding success!  Firecracker is loving it!  So for about 3.00 (we already had the clothes line so I'm not including that in the price) we have a new constructive toy.  Pretty cool I'd say!

Have a great day!
Ms. T

P.s. if you wanna try this make sure your Lego base is heavy enough to keep the pulley on the rope and not flopping to the side.

Exercise or Eat Cheese?

The other day I took the kids to a local arcade (kind of as a last hurrah for summer).  They were playing all kinds of different games.  Firecracker found a game that was like a digital jump rope.  He had to stand on a sensor and a big oval with light bars stood before him.  As the lights went around he had to jump before the lights reached a certain point.  He LOVED it.  He probably played that game 5 times in a row.

At one point I looked at Firecracker and said, "You really like this game, don't you?"  He looked at me and said, "At least I'm getting exercise instead of eating cheese."  I just about busted up with laughter!  Where did he come up with that?  It's not like he is a cheese eater.  He will eat it occasionally, but it's not high up on foods he loves.  My kids are such little nuts.

Have a great day!

First Day of School

As per usual the summer flew by and now we are starting school.  The kids are excited!  I'm going to miss the lazy days of summer, but I've also missed the rascals I call my students so I will be happy to see them again also.

In a few days I'll post pics of my favorite little people's first day of school for 2016.

Have a great day!

You Might Be a Parent (More Parentisms)

You might be a parent if...

* Your first reaction when a kid falls is, "You're ok.  You're tough!"

* You feel exceptionally proud when someone else poops on the toilet.

* You spend an inordinate amount of time looking for other people's shoes, clothes etc...

* You know everything there is to know about  _____________ (fill in the cartoon. Ex. Phineas and Ferb, Pokemon or My Little Pony)

* You are doing laundry CONSTANTLY and never seem to be able to catch up.

* You make up your own "cuss words" because you don't want your kids repeating the stuff you'd usually say.  (Words like fart, crap and darn are a big no-no in our house so I substitute with things like Punch a duck! when I'm frustrated etc.)

Parenting is such a joy! =)

Have a great day!

Not a Kidnapper

I have a habit of calling Sweet Pea "Little Girl" and Firecracker "Little Boy".  Why do I do that?  I have no idea.  There is seriously something wrong in my brain.  It's a big bag of weird.  Anyway, the other day we were walking through Walmart holding Sweet Pea's hand (She was in trouble).  She started to wiggle away from me and I said, "Stop trying to get away from me, Little Girl."

I looked up and there was a lady looking at me very suspiciously.  It occurred to me in that moment that I sounded very much like a kidnapper.  I think the only thing that saved the cops being called was that Sweet pea said something like, "Yes, Mommy."  So, note to self, call the kids by their names so you don't sound like a kidnapper.

Stability

My parents have been married for 41 years as of today.  Holy cow bells!  Do you realize that the typical length of marriages in the U.S. is only 8.2 years?  My parents have been together roughly five times the national average!  That is crazy.  Crazy awesome!  I'm so thankful for them and their love for one another.

My siblings and I used to give them a hard time about their "Public Displays of Affection" (Aka PDA), but honestly, I'm thankful for it.  I've always known that they loved each other and I've always known that I was loved.  In this crazy, world where you can't count on anything except change and uncertainty I can count on my parents and their love, not only their love for each other, but also their love for our family. I ache for those that have never experienced this kind of stability and security.

Thank you, God, for my parents!  And thank you, Mom and Dad, for your love and commitment to each other.

Have a great day!

Pokemon Lover

Firecracker has loved Pokemon for months.  So naturally when the Pokemon Go app came out the Hubs down loaded it and they play it together.  As a result Sweet Pea has been subjected to having to wait at many "Pokemon Stops" for the boys to get their prizes.

Yesterday, we were driving home from church and found a spot that had 13 Poke Stops.  Mind you these stops only take maybe 1 minute each, but when you add 'em up an extra 15 minutes in the car can be rough for a 5 year old.  In response to this Sweet Pea piped up with, "Mom, Pokemon is getting on my nerds!"  Ha!

If you think about this it could go 1 of 2 ways.  1- The Pokemon has gotten all over her nerds (aka, the Hubs and Firecracker) or 2- The Pokemon stuff is getting on her nerves.  Either way it's funny.

Have a great day!

Security Cameras

Lately Sweet Pea has been obsessed about security cameras.  She spots them EVERYWHERE we go.  I really have no idea where she came by this new obsession. It is definitely different.  At least it's benign.  I mean it could be way way worse.

Have a good day!  And remember, security cameras are EVERYWHERE.  If you can't find them Sweet Pea will point them out for you.

Super Heroes

On the way home from school during the school year, one of Sweet pea's favorite discussions was what super hero she wanted to be and what powers she'd have.  The other day, my younger brother and Sweet pea had this conversation:
Brother: Sweet pea, what super hero do you wanna be?
Sweet pea: Munder Woman
(I was surprised she even knew who Wonder Woman was!)
B: Cool, what super power would you have?
Sp: Freezing Elsa power
and then she ran away.

The conversation reminded me of one of the conversations Sweet pea and I had on the way home from school during the school year.  She told me she was going to have bubble gum powers.  When I asked her what bubble gum powers were she explained it made people sticky and they couldn't move.

My little girl has such an imagination =)

Cross My Heart

The other day, I asked Sweet pea a question and she told me her answer.  I was skeptical at first, however she looked straight in my eyes and said, "Cross my heart and my eyes."  I had to believe her then!  I mean come on who wouldn't?! My SIL was also sitting there and said, "Well, I guess it's a better substitute than 'hope to die'." After Sweet pea ran off, we both laughed pretty hard.

Things You Don't Think About

I was thinking about it the other day, and it occurred to me that no matter how big a germ-a-phobe you are there are things that we put into our mouths that we don't think twice about.  For instance:

1. Hair ties- Women especially are notorious about this.  We just hold them with our lips while we adjust our hair, or use our teeth to bring the hair tie from our wrists down to our fingers while our other hand is holding the hair.

2. Pens- People put pens/ pencils in their mouths for a variety of reasons.  No matter the reason you have to admit you've done it at least a time or two in your life.

3. Bobby pins- It is nearly impossible to use a bobby pin in your hair without using your teeth to open it.  Just sayin'

4.  Safety pins- It's just natural to hold the safety pin in your mouth while you hold together whatever it is you want to pin.

5.  An arm of a pair of glasses- Whether they are prescription, reading or sun glasses everyone has put the end of one arm of their glasses in their mouth one time or another.

I'm sure there are more things that we put in our mouths without thinking about it.  These are just a few of the things that came right off the top of my head.  And now every time you go to put one of these in your mouth you'll stop and think about it. =)

Have a great day!

A Sheet

Lately, my kids have been obsessed with building tents.  I don't mind it, it's great to see their little minds at work.  I've discovered that if you give a kid a sheet and a few chairs you hand them their own world.  A world where dinosaurs exist, or space is just a heart beat away.

Isn't it amazing how little minds work?  Just give them an opportunity and their little imaginations take off.

Have a great day!

Punch A Duck

I have this weird saying.  When something goes wrong instead of saying something like, "oh stink!"  I say, "punch a duck!"  I know I'm weird.

Anyway, the other day the kids and I were in Rural King (it is kinda like a Walmart for people with animals). They have a section in the store where they have chicks, ducks and rabbits for sale.  I was looking at some things near that section and the kids were enjoying looking at the little animals.

My phone started ringing and I reached to pull it out of my purse.  It slipped out of my fingers and fell to the floor.  Out of reflex I exclaimed, "Oh, PUNCH A DUCK!"  Without missing a beat, Firecracker responded, "But Mom, the sign says we aren't supposed to touch them." (Like he always obeys when I tell him to punch a duck *yeah right*) When I looked up there were about 7 or 8 people staring at me.  So then like any rational person (sarcasm) I start rambling about how I'm not really an animal abuser and it's just an expression I use and that I know I'm weird.

I'm pretty sure after that episode they wouldn't have let me buy a duck (or chick for that matter), and I can't say I'd blame them.  Thankfully, that wasn't why we were there.

Have a great day!

Our 4th of July Activities (Yes, I know yesterday was the actual 4th of July)

Yesterday, our little family had a great day.  First, the Hubs took the kids to breakfast and let me sleep in!  (Swoon) After my loves all came home, we left and went to see Finding Dory.  It was cute.  Next, we came home and napped!  Yay! For nap time!!  Finally, I took the kids to see a fireworks display.

They had never been to an actual big show, and man, did they love it!  They kept saying, "Wow!  That kind is my favorite!" and then another firework would go off and they would repeat the same sentiments.  It was so cute.  I've always loved firework shows.  Growing up my parents always took my siblings and I to a fireworks show every 4th of July.  It was tradition (it didn't hurt that there was a location that was roughly 10 minutes from home that did one every year for free).

Though I've always loved watching fireworks shows, watching my kid's reactions to their very first one was so great!  It was almost as good as the show itself =).  Seeing life through a kid's eyes is so amazing.  It reminds me that we don't need all the "stuff" we fill our lives with.  Entertainment can be found in the simplest forms: Dirt piles, puddles, bubbles, side walk chalk, a hose, stars, clouds etc.  All we have to do is stop and open our eyes to the endless amounts of entertainment surrounding us every day.

Here is a picture of some of the fireworks we watched, although they didn't turn out very well...

While we were driving home, I asked the kids if they knew why we celebrate the 4th of July every year.  Of course, because they're 7 & 5 they answered, "no".  I explained how our country used to be part of England and that the King of England was putting more and more taxes on the people here and it was making it hard for them. To this the kids exclaimed, "That King was just being selfish!  That's not fair!"  I finished by telling them that the people here in America didn't think it was fair either so they signed the Declaration of Independence saying that we were now our own country and didn't belong to England any more.

I went on to tell them how the King didn't like that and sent an army over here to start a war to make us be part of England even if we didn't want to be.  The kids were horrified saying things like, "That King was soooo mean!"

I finished by telling the kids that our country won the war and the right to be a free country.  They started cheering and saying things like, "Wow!  That's so awesome!!", "Yes!", "Shew, yeah, we won!"  It was so amazing.  All together it was an awesome day.

Have a great day!

Animals

The other day the kids and I were driving and Sweet pea was singing, "And Bingo was his name-o".  Occasionally she would get stuck on a part of the song and I would sing the part she didn't know and then she would pick right back up.  At one point in the middle of the song we have this conversation:

Sweet Pea: "Mommy, there is a cow that belongs to this song."
Me: "No, baby, that is 'Old McDonald'."
SP: "No, Mommy, a cow belongs to it.  I heard it on my teacher's radio and his name is Black."
Me:  "Umm, ok, I've just never heard of a cow with this song."

At this point in the conversation Sweet pea is convinced that I have never heard of any animals but dogs.

SP: "Let me tell you there are giraffes, koala bears, bears..."

I was sitting in the front seat trying my hardest not to burst out laughing.  I just sat and listened to her recitation of different animals.  Silly munchkin =)

Have a great day!

Travels

A couple weeks ago the Hubs, kids and I drove to visit the Hub's dad.  On our drive I began noticing different business signs that were misspelled.  Now, mind you that I teach English.  Obviously, these kinds of things drive me absolutely crazy.  Allow me to share with you a few of these ridiculous signs:

* Buy some tomatetoes (should be 'tomatoes')

* Money Mizer Pawn Shop (should be 'miser')

* Buy some veges (should be 'veggies')

* Mama's Bisquits (should be 'biscuits')

I know there were more, but I can't remember them right now.  Aren't these ridiculous enough?

Have a great day!

Summer!

Somehow it is already the 4th week of summer.  We have been super busy these last 3 weeks. So busy in fact that we haven't even been to the beach yet! *GASP* The first week was the obligatory "Teachers must clean up their classroom and get report cards ready".  The second week we went to visit the Hub's Dad.  And last week was Vacation Bible School at our church.

It has been a good summer so far, but I'm glad to be able to just hang out at home.  Happy summer, friends!

Have a good day!

Wrong One!

Last Friday I went through the atm drive through lane at the bank.  I put my card in and after the pin entrance screen I chose my option and then the screen said my card was not authorized for that transaction.  I thought maybe I did something wrong so I redid the whole thing only to have the exact same thing happen.

I ended up having to park, get the kids out of the car and go inside.  I waited through the line and once I got to the teller I explained my problem.  She said she would be happy to help.  I pulled out my card and handed it to her.  She looked at it and then said, "This is a Walmart card."  Sure enough!  When I looked I had used my Walmart card instead of my bank card!  No wonder I couldn't get my card to work.... I am such a nerd face.  Rest assured I will be making sure to use the right card the next time!

Clean Sheets

I swear I don't know why I change my kid's sheets.  Every time I change their sheets they end up getting sick or peeing the bed.  You think I'm kidding, but I'm not.  Every. Single. Time.  I used to change sheets every week.  Once Firecracker came along that changed to once every two weeks.  Now, I don't want to tell you.  Suffice it to say it is not as often as it should be.  However, part of the problem is because of the aforementioned issue.  UGH!  Darned if I do and darned if I don't.

Have a great day,

Then They Eat Chicken

The other day Firecracker was explaining an episode of Tom and Jerry that he had been watching.  This was his explanation:
"They were dressed kinda funny, and umm, Mom, what is that thing where everyone gets along and then they eat chicken?"

It took me a minute and then I said, "do you mean Thanksgiving?"  He was like, "Yeah that's it!  They had Thanksgiving."

To be honest I don't even remember the rest of his explanation of the episode, because I was cracking up at his description of Thanksgiving.

Rare Friendships

Friendships are such important parts of life.  I am blessed to have wonderful friends.  We all have friendships that thrive for a time, but eventually time and/ or distance dissolve such friendships.  Not to say that we don't still think of that person, or love them, it's just that we never get together with them or reach out to them.

There are a few rare friendships most of us have in our lives that when we see our friend no matter how long it has been since we last connected the friendship is just as strong.  These friendships are rare and to be treasured.  Recently, I had a friend come back from another country to visit.  She and I hadn't seen each other in roughly two years.  However, we were able to sit down and talk for hours like it had only been a short time since we had seen each other.  She is such a sweet friend and I love her.  I do wish she lived closer so I could spend more time with her.  However, I will take the time I can get and enjoy it.

This friend is not the only one I share this type of rare friendship with.  I have a few others.  However, there are precious few I can claim this kind of relationship with.

Have a great day!

An Enthusiastic Audience Member

If there was any doubt at all whether or not I am abnormal this last week at Convention proved I am with a resounding, “YES.”  While I was watching the kids participate in different events, apparently I surprised a lot of people.

Now, I feel the need to explain that I am an enthusiastic audience member/ fan/ sponsor.  When one of the kids would finish their performance I would cheer super loud and clap for them.  I received quite a few looks from people.  Apparently, their idea for encouraging those who have just performed was to do the “golf clap.”  You know, clap super quietly while sitting with nearly no expression on their face.

Well, I have news for those other people.  My kids know I’m proud of them and know I think they did soooo well, and everyone around me knows it too.  Everyone in the room knows that my kids have at least one person that loves them and supports them.  I’m not trying to say if you don’t cheer like I do that you don’t cheer right.  You have every right to cheer the way you want to.  All I ask is to be tolerated while I cheer how I want to.  And you know what?  Whether or not you like it doesn’t bother me.  Sorry.  Though, I may apologize afterward if I ended up injuring your ear drum with my loudness. =)

Have a great day!
Ms. T

P.S. if you have ever heard my Mother cheer for anyone for anything, you would know where I get my exuberance from. =)

Convention

Last year, 2015, I wrote about the kids in my classroom participating in a State Convention.  There are all kinds of events from Scrap-booking and Science projects to Basketball and Shot put.  This week was Convention for 2016.

Once again, several of the students from my class participated.  There were many memorable moments in the week.  Such as one of the boys, G, did a tuck and roll during a basketball game because he had tripped when trying to get the ball when the other team lost control of the ball.  Once he came out of the roll, he jumped up, grabbed the ball, dribbled to the hoop and finished the fast break with a lay-up that went in!

Another memory would have to be while our team was in an academic quizzing session they had a question none of them knew the answer to so they answered by singing (yes, singing), “Taco Bell.”

One that was not humorous, but still memorable and sweet was when one of our girls, L, helped out a fellow competitor with her costume for her performance.  L just happen to notice the girl needed help, made some suggestions and helped her accomplish them.

Anyway, I was so proud of our kids.  They were so good!  They behaved well, and performed even better.  Not one of the kids came away from the awards ceremony without having placed in one event or another.  I couldn’t have been prouder of my sweet students!  I love them all!  And here are a few pictures of my kids with their awards:

It took a few minutes to get them calm enough to look at the camera...

The girls only took one take.  See how beautiful they are?  And then there are the boys...

After awhile we finally got a keeper!

Have a great day!
