Try It Tuesday - No Knit Scarf

Happy Tuesday, Ya'll! 

I have shared with you my love of fall, and I know that it is a little obvious by my love of scarves!  I love pretty scarves, but really think they are so overpriced in stores.  So, I try to make all of my own.  Today we are making a super cute and easily made No Knit Scarf.  If you can tie a knot, you can do this!  This scarf cost me $5.94 to make, the cost of 2 skeins of yarn.

I used a super bulky yarn to make my scarf because I wanted something that would be warm during this winter.  Seeing as the temp outside is still in the 70-80 range, I am hoping that we might actually get some cooler weather here pretty soon.  Anyway, that's off subject.  Super Bulky Yarn, that's right.

I chose this deep navy/purple-ish color.  You want to remember that this will be around your neck, so you want something that is comfortable and not scratchy.

I wanted a decent sized scarf, so I measured out 24 lengths of yarn each approximately 140 inches long.  I had almost enough to finish with just one skein of yarn, but not quite.  If you want though, you can cut the pattern down to 18 lengths of yarn to stay within the one skein.(That will make your cost $2.97).

 Once I had all my yarn cut, I separated it into bunches of 3.  Then I took two of the bunches of 3 and tied them together using a square knot, leaving about 6  inches of fringe hanging from the end.
 

 Then I pinned each knotted group to my couch about an inch or so apart. (I know, some people would use a foam board or something else, but I am too cheap to buy one of those!)  I know at this point it looks a little scary with 24 pieces of yarn there.  But really, you are working in groups of 3, so you really have 8 sections you are working with.

You will continue using a square knot to tie sections of three together creating this diamond pattern.  Continue the pattern  until you get close to the end of your strands.  You want to tie off the end in four knots, just like you began, making sure you leave about a 6 inch fringe.  I matched my ends up and trimmed the fringe to where it would match and be symmetrical.

I was able to make this last night while watching DWTS, so you know it can't be that difficult.  I put it on this morning and it is super comfy and warm.  The Little Miss immediately demanded that I make her one as well.  Well, I have a lot of yarn left from that second skein of yarn, so I guess I better get to it!
